Clone vs Backup & Restore

Thread needs solution

Why bother with clone when most of the entries I read say back & restore works better for a range of reasons?  Is there anything about clone that gives it some advantage?

Mike, making a full backup is recommended before embarking on doing a clone, primarily for the purpose of safeguarding your OS, applications and data.

The main advantage of using Cloning is that of speed in the sense of avoiding the additional steps needed to make a backup on a third drive then restore this to the target drive.

With the introduction of Active Clone with ATI 2018 and later, the clone can use the Microsoft VSS snapshot process (as used by Backup) and be performed completely within Windows (assuming the target drive can be connected and has no existing OS on it).

Thanks Steve.  I just ordered a new desktop and want to make sure I thoroughly understand Acronis.  So far, so good.
