Disk Cloning Failed

Thread needs solution

Hi All, I'm trying to clone my HDD to my new SDD and unfortunately it has failed. I have downloaded the log to see what went wrong but am not sure what the log is saying (I've attached it for reference).

My question is: I'm happy to simply transfer only my Windows 11 OS onto the new SSD and start fresh unless the cloning fix is relatively straightforward. Is anyone able to advise either how to resolve the cloning issue or instead advise how to transfer my OS to the SDD instead?

Thanks for your support :)

Dom, welcome to these public User Forums.

Looking at your log information it looks like the new SSD is half the size of the original HDD and the clone is failing when it tries to reduce the size of the Windows Recovery partition by around 3GB (from 25GB to 22.06GB).

The log also shows that you have an old PRC_RP 1GB factory recovery partition on the HDD which would be used to put the old PC back to how it came from the factory with whatever version of Windows it had at that time, so you could backup and then delete that partition to give a little more space.

It is recommended that an SSD should have around 20% free space available to see the performance benefits that the technology can give, so if you have a lot of data on the HDD, you might want to either get a larger SSD or consider moving data to another drive such as a USB storage drive.

Acronis cannot be used to only move the Windows OS between systems, it has to be everything or nothing!  You would need to perform a clean install of Windows 11 if you want to make a fresh start on the new SSD, then transfer your user data / documents etc across, along with reinstalling your applications.
