Error - "Cannot find the partition selected for the backup"

Hi,

I keep getting an error message when trying to backup my USB 3.0 external drive. I am doing a "Disk and Partition" backup and selecting the entire drive R:\

If I restart TrueImage sees the partition, and begins backup again but after a while it loses the partition. Even when I click to create a new backup and choose Disk and Partition - R:\ drive is missing.

The other USB 2.0 external drive backups fine.

Bashir, welcome to these User Forums.

I would suspect that you have a connection problem with your USB 3.0 external drive that is causing it to drop out either under load conditions or your Windows power settings are doing a selective suspend for the drive.

What type of USB port are you connecting the drive to?  Is this a USB 3.0 port or a USB 2.0 port?

USB 3.0 drives demand higher power than a USB 2.0 device and therefore the port must support this extra power requirement.

If you are connecting the USB 3 drive to a USB 2 port, then you should be using a powered hub to support the extra power requirements needed.

The drive is connected to USB 3.0 PCI express expansion i/o card. The hard drive is MyBook Duo, so it has its own powersupply in addition to USB 3.0.

I understand that the drive might enter low power mode and backup might stop... but why does it disappear from TrueImage completely. It seems even after waking the computer Trueimage is unable to see the drive. Is there a process I can restart under services that will be able to refresh the partition list in TureImage?

Thanks and happy new year!

Go to Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, Power Options, Change advanced power settings, USB settings, USB selective suspend setting - set this option do Disabled.

While there look for PCI Express, Link State Power Management - set this to Off.
