Expression Web web site folder\files not backing up
Hi,
Having just had to go through the rigours of a full data volume restore using ATI 2018 (file and folder backup) I've noticed that a folder that contains the local files for my web site weren't being backed up.
I use Expression Web on my PC and my local web site is contained in a folder within My Documents.
At no point was the folder backed up so I've had to retrieve the files from the web site itself.
Why hasn't ATI 2018 backed up this folder when permissions\ownership are identical to all other folders?
Many thanks,
Sean

Sean,
Steve is probably going to find the root of your problem... These MVP's are super good at discovering Ti problems, hardware or users issues.
Just wanted to let you know that I also use Expressions Web and several days ago had to restore an entire disk due to my dimwitted hot swapping mistakes that wrecked my Win10/pro installation.
The restore went perfectly. My C (OS) and Data partition were restored. The C partition contained the Exp Web programs and my websites were stored on my "Data" partition, also on the same disk.
I have used FrontPage and Expressions Web for many years and have had ocassions to restore. I have not encountered the problem you are describing. All restores of the website folders and files were restored the same as all my other folders.
I , generally, accept the defaults for TI2018 and 2016 with the exception of using "Differential" rather than "Incremental" type backups.
I'll watch your thread too see what the error and solution turns out to be...
Regards,
Steve F.

I too have the issue with website folders and files not being backed up. Nothing in folders with the globe in the folder icon is backed up.

Harry, welcome to these public User Forums.
The globe folder icon suggests that the folders are not stored on the local drive but are links to remote data which would not be backed up by Acronis as it does not follow such links.

But the folders with files that are marked with a globe (by Expession I guess) are on my local drive. Only when I upload the files to the web server are they copied to the web. If for some reason the remote files on the server are lost or corrupted and I have an issue with the local copies I would not be able to recover them.

Harry, if these are all local files then there has to be a different reason why they are not being backed up?
Please download the MVP Log Viewer tool (link below) and use this to check for messages in the log created for each backup task.

I downloaded the log file tool and just did a backup. Here's the log file:

Harry, thank you for the log information, this doesn't show any errors so the follow on question now is: what is the full folder path to where your web files are stored?
- Accedi per poter commentare

ThisPC/OS(C)/Website/Harrysfrags.
On the backup I see the Website folder but it is empty.
- Accedi per poter commentare

Ok, are all the web files shown in Explorer when you look at the same folder?
If you create a Files & Folders backup of the same C:\Website folder does this work correctly?
What type of files are in the folder, what extension types?
- Accedi per poter commentare

I have 3 web sites in the c:\Website folder. None of them would backup. I fiddled with something and finally got it to backup. I couldn't remember what I did and tried to make the other two like the first one but I couldn't see any difference.
The files are aspx, js, mdb, ini, txt, ico, swf, etc.
It's not really a hot issue for me as I figure the probably of the webserver crashing and loosing everything there as well as my local drive crashing all at the same time are pretty remote. I can simply retrieve the files from the web server but I can't see why they are not being backed up.

Harry, given that you have ATI 2019 #17750 then I would recommend opening a Support Case direct with Acronis to investigate why the folder & files are not being included in your disk backup image. ATI 2019 still has full support until Acronis release the next new version (ATI 2020) which is currently being Beta tested by users.
The risk to the actual web server data is probably very low as the ISP hosting your sites should have their own server backups that they could recover from in a server crash scenario.

Yeah, I already open an "email ticket" a few days ago but have not received a response.
- Accedi per poter commentare

Let us know how you get on once your ticket is worked on please. I would guess most of the focus at present is on the beta results and issues being raised by testers of ATI 2020, but they should respond to your ticket soon!
