Failed recovery using True Image Home 2018 and 2019

Thread needs solution

I have in the last days updated from True Image Home 2012 to 2018. My computers are:

1) No name Tower using Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit SP1 and Intel Core Duo E 8400 @3GHz, 4 GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce GTX 550Ti several Hard Disks

2) Laptop Dell Vostro 5568, Intel Core i5 7200U, 2.5GHz, 8GB RAM, 256 GB SSD, Windows 10 Professional 64bit

With all versions, including #12 I had absolutely no problems. After installation of version 2018 ( I am deeply disappointed, I can't name freely my backup files) backing up all drives on both computers; I found it impossible to recover the backup from the external disk. Backup files are perfectly OK and can be used under version 12. The version 2018 finds the file under Backup but when I click on Recover button I get the following message:

"Cannot find version 1.

You may have or deleted it. Please click BROWSE and specify its location. If you ignore it, the previous version will be used for recovery."

After selecting the Backup file using the BROWSE button I get the same pop up message.

I am using Full Backups only of the corresponding partition.

The Knowledge base is suggesting to Add Acronis folders, processes and executables into Antivirus Exclusions (Kaspersky Internet Security, newest version).

This has not yielded any solution to the problem. No improvement either by temporary deactivating the Antvirus.

Any hint what might be getting wrong just by upgrading from version 12 to 2018? The version 2019 is showing the same problem.

Kind regards, Petr

The ability of ATI 2019/2018 to work with backups created by earlier versions of ATI is described in the knowledge base 1689:

Backups of Windows computers created with:
Acronis True Image 2018, Acronis True Image Subscription
Acronis True Image 2017, Acronis True Image Subscription
Acronis True Image 2016, Acronis True Image Cloud (Release 2016)
Acronis True Image 2015
Acronis True Image 2014

Backups can only be restored. Other operations can be limited. It is necessary to create a new backup plan / archive.

So your backups with ATI 2012 should be able to be accessed with ATI 2018/2019.

The "cannot find version 1" issue can be a problem with incremental backups but should not be a problem with full version only backups. Am I correct in assuming that the first backup in each case is in fact present?

As a temporary solution you can use the ATI 2012 recovery media to do recovery. A bit messy but you can at least get to the data. You could also try the ATI 2018/2019 recovery media.

You could try copying the particular backup *.tib file to another location and rename it with a name indicating it is the first version (you will need to temporarily suspend Active Protection), then see if you can access it.

You can give back-up tasks custom names, and those names are reflected in the file names. When you create the task you can change the 'default name', and the backup files will use that name. If you forget to do so you can do it later by clicking on the "flattened" V (see screenshot) and selecting rename. You should do the renaming before you do the first backup (as the backup files will not be renamed).

Before creating the first backup check to make sure your customised name has not disappeared - this happened in earlier builds but I do not recall seeing it recently.
