Help me start off on the right track

Thread needs solution

Hi there,

New to Acronis. Just purchased a 6tb WD Mybook and using Acronis to back up my work and personal stuff. At first I thought it was pretty simple but I think this is all way over my head.

Essentially this is the workflow I want:

  1. Everyday I work on my desktop SSD drive.
  2. Twice a day I want Acronis to back up the SSD drive.
  3. I want Acronis to just merge the newly created content with previous back ups putting it all in one back up, not multiple full back ups, just backing up whats been changed or newly added to the SSD
  4. At the end of the week I want to delete the files from my SSD to create more room, while still keeping all the files on my external 6tb back up drive.

Can this be achieved?

Thank you!

Kristian, sorry but you cannot do as you have described using ATI 2018.

You can configure an Acronis backup task to run twice a day and create a backup of your SSD as either a whole disk & partitions backup, or using the Files & Folders backup option.

This backup would create an Acronis .TIB file for the data captured.  On the first backup run, this would be a Full backup image, then on subsequent backup runs, depending on the type of backup scheme you choose, the next backup would be either another Full, an Incremental or a Differential backup image.  These will all be separate backup image files.

There is no provision in ATI to merge your backup contents into a single backup - ATI works using the concept of creating Backup Version Chains, where this is a set of related files comprising of a Full Backup image file plus all associated Incremental or Differential image files for that same chain.

Please note that my comments above apply to all current versions of the full Acronis True Image product.  If your copy of Acronis software was provided with your purchase of the WD 6TB disk drive, then this is classified as an OEM software product which may have some reduced functionality as compared to the full commercial ATI product, but the basic function of the product should remain the same.
