Media Builder not working.

Thread needs solution

I am running 64 bit windows 7 with the updated acronis 2018. When I create a simple or advanced rescue media my PC will not boot to the USB stick at all. USB boot is first in order but does not pick up anything to boot from. Any help or hints?

Darren, not aware of any specific problems with the new 2018 rescue media and Windows 7.

There have been issues in the past where the USB stick needed a full format before being created with the media builder that gave similar boot problems.  Don't do a quick format of the USB stick.

I'll give it a go but it was a brand new stick that had not been used before now.. I have tried several other sticks too now and to no avail. I'll keep you posted.

ok... third stick worked fine just now to find out why.. I am currently full formatting the new one to see if that solves it..

Darren, another point that I didn't mention earlier, the USB stick should be between 1GB up to 32GB maximum size to be bootable.

See KB 58108: Acronis products: using USB sticks with more than 32GB capacity

All 16gb and same brand. One worked and others still do not en even after full format. At least I have one. I also. Tried a 1gb one for 32bit and that errors when you try to boot from it so need to work on that too. Cannot get mvp script to work either...

From what I've read and experienced, the brand new sticks are the ones likely to file - something about the way they are formatted.  And sometimes even a full format using the Windows format function does not fix the problem.  3rd party utilities such as RMPrepUSB do fix the problem.

Make sure you are formatting as FAT32.  Some USB thumb drives I have found are formatted NTFS.

Some also used xFAT (I have seen it a least once); but that is more common with SD Cards.

All were fat32 and one was a previous boot media. Have used rmprepusb and one worked but I think the rest will too. Thanks for help. Still can't get a 32bit version to work though but I'll post separately on that if I have further issues

There is a good guide here:

The last step - marking the partition as active - seems to be what marks a device as a candidate for booting.

Hi, everyone,

I have been unable to even creating a bootable media. Following some sparse information in Acronis KB, I tried to follow the instructions:

· Insert a CD-R/RW or plug in a USB flash drive.

· Start Acronis True Image 2018.

· On the sidebar, click Tools, and then click Rescue Media Builder.

· On the first step, select Acronis bootable rescue media.

· Select the device to use to create the bootable media.

· Click Proceed

Problem is, I seem unable to find the entry for Rescue Media Builder on the sidebar, after clicking "Tools". It's just not there. What am I missing?

Thanks for help.

Acronis 2018, 9660

Edit: My only fault, it IS there... Mea culpa... I'm sorry.

Same here. We use Dell optiplex machines and use Acronis for backup and restore. When changing to Acronis 2018 this problem started. Sometimes in UEFI mode we can load the software, but most of the time it is nog working.

We now still use 2017 which works fine on all machines. I guess Acronis should have a serious look at this, 2018 appears to be a lot worse. Also loading is very slow.

We presently have Acronis 2018 10640

Sjouke, have you opened a Support Case direct with Acronis for this issue with the Media Builder.  If not, then please do so to register that you are seeing this issue with the current latest build of ATI 2018.

All,

You should also find an entry for Acronis Media Builder in Windows Start button menu.  Selecting it there should launch the tool.
