MVP V2.6.1 Rescue Tab Show "Acronis True Image 2018..Unable to install this version"!

Thread needs solution

I've been using the new MVP 2-6-1 on a new pc with ATI home V2018 -release 15560.  Its a fresh install of win 10 22h2 x64 uefi, only Chrome and ATI & MVP installed...(should mention I've got an identical PC with ATI 2019 & it is 100% without issues)

Anyway, on the PC the ATI Windows app  ATI 2018 (natively) runs 100% ok, and will build a working usb rescue  flash set to use ADK as the wim source) using the base Acronis built in tools.

However, on the  ati 2018 pc, running MVP 2-6-1, on the Rescue Media Tab, "Under applications", the the first entry is "Acronis True Image 2018...UNABLE TO INSTALL THIS VERSION"  !!!

If I ignore and build the USB, it boots ok, but then fails as True Image was not included" IMAGE SOURCE is configured (in MVP) as WinPE from ADK.  The installed ADK version (in control panel) is shown as 10.1.19041.1.

I should mention the both ATI2018 AND MVP are installed in the default locations.

HELP!!!  Please...

Robert, this is a known issue that is caused by Acronis changing program paths etc between versions, thus the MVP Assistant tool works only with ATI 2019 and later versions directly.

There is an easy circumvention that will work with ATI 2018 and 2017 versions which is as follows:

Use the normal Acronis Rescue Media Builder tool to create a .WIM file from the 'Simple' option.

In the MVP Assistant tool, choose the new .WIM file as the Image source for your new project and it will already have ATI 2018 included from the .wim file.

Thanks Steve (as usual)...

I was already aware about the workaround for ATI2017 but didn't realize that the (same?) issue applied to ATI2018!

1. You mentioned using the "ATI SIMPLE" option but this uses (I recall the WRE source (from the active host PC) rather than the ADK based source.  Can you confirm that using the Advanced+ADK from within the ATI2018 WinApp ...or even using the MVP (version 1.x) would also produce a workable WIM to use as source to MVPV2.x  (of course being sure the MVP v1.x has been made with x64+ UEFI setting).

2. Lastly, a general question....Because of flexibility in storing my backups from multiple PCs on a central server, (even though I have the Full ATI Win program installed) I have used ATI 2017...WinPE/ADK/MVPV1.x media as my choice to both PRODUCE and RESTORE System Backups.  Never, ever an issue.

3. I noticed that WINPE RESCUE media (v2018 - 2021 forward, USB, MVP v1.x variants) generally take 100% longer to complete backups  vs. the same rescue backup of a 2017 version.  As part of this, I have observed that (for Ati 2018 forward) a backup typically thrashes on the source SSD/HDD for 15-20 minutes before BEGINNING to transfer data to the DESINATION drive!  Once the actual data transfer does begin, going forward, the actual backup writing time is similar to that consumed by ATO V2017???

Any hint about this?

Thanks once again

Bob

Bob, any WIM that includes the version of ATI that you want to use should be fine to use as source for the MVP Assistant media builder tool.

I don't really have any recent experience with ATI 2017 as I only ever had that via an MVP subscription so never bought a perpetual license for it that I could use for testing after things moved on to later versions.  That is my omission as I have licenses for almost all other versions from 9.0 to 2021..!

Performance of Acronis from rescue media has been a point of discussion between users for a long time and depends on many different factors, including how much the user sits and watches the grass grow / paint dry!

If 2017 works best for you, then provided you create the backups with that same version being used to restore them, then there is no reason to change.  Acronis only publish information on the backwards compatibility between their versions of True Image / CPHO and not for the other direction.

Steve,

All is working well!

I've been purchasing perpetual versions of  ATI from V7 or 8 thru 2021...with several licenses each year.  Like many users, the combo of subscription-only and "product-bloat" were the deciding factors to halting future purchases (err RENTing! ...a well-known story in the ATI world.

Still, V2017 (for me) hit a real sweet spot.I have about 5 licenses for that version and with the additional of the MVP tools, allowing enhanced and simple PE rescue creation Ill stick with that until it stops functioning.

I'll stay on Win10 until end of support-not tested Win11 yet so I don't know if there will be any issues with MVPv2-ati 2017 and the secure boot...requirements?? Does it effect booting of WinPE rescue media?

Thanks once again

Bob, I have mostly migrated my systems to Win 11 apart from a few that are not capable which remain on Win 10.

All the rescue media works fine regardless of being Win 11, 10, 8, 7 etc as it only cares whether you use it in Legacy / MBR or UEFI / GPT mode when booting.  WinPE handles any secure boot aspects but again doesn't seem to care whether it is on or off.

I have tested Win 11 with as far back as ATI 2015 and it still worked and have test machines currently with 2018, 2019, 2021 and ACPHO running on them all with Win 11.
Officially, Acronis only support Win 11 with ACPHO subscription version!
My main PC has Win 11 with 2021 (along with Macrium Reflect 8 Home).

Bob, further to Steve's input about using the MVP Assistant to build with ATI 2018 (or 2017)...

When selecting the source in the MVP Assistant media builder, choose the Acronis .wim file option. When you click on Acquire image... it will bring up a message guiding you very smoothly through the process. It automatically loads the Acronis media builder and tells you what to do so the source is acquired correctly. Whether you choose the Simple or Advanced WinPE is up to you.
