Notary Backup Versions

Thread needs solution

Does someone know how many versions of the backup files are saved in the cloud when using the notary feature? When selecting "Notarize" the "Cleanup" feature disappears in settings (this is where you can select the number of versions to be saved—from 0 to 20). Am I correct in assuming that only the latest version of the backed up files will be saved when notarizing, and to save multiple backup versions you need to disable "Notarize"?

James, welcome to these User Forums.

I cannot find any information to answer your question and can confirm that I do not see any option for a notarised backup to configure any settings related to backup versions being held.

Please open a Support Case directly with Acronis for your question and if/when you get an answer then please share it with the other users in this forum.

This was the reply from Acronis tech support (in part):

The case number for future reference is 03373652. As I understand, you would like to know the retention rule for the Notary backup.

I will be glad to assist you with this.

Please refer to the following Knowledge Base article on "Notarized backup" for your reference:

https://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/ATIMAC2018/index.ht…

If the same issue persists, please collect the following information so that we can check with Team:

a) Video Session illustrating the issue
b) System report: https://kb.acronis.com/content/58820

Please upload the requested files to the FTP link below:

Etc., etc.

As expected, this is no help. I think the response was from a bot based on key words in my query.

The link given is to a page in the user manual that does not answer my question (I had already read it).

It looks like I’m going to have to do an experiment and find out for myself. I don’t want to spend weeks uploading files until I know for sure what the settings do.

James, I would reply back to the Acronis agent who sent you the above reply and tell them exactly what you have written above, i.e. the reply has zero value in answering the question!

Unfortunately it is sometimes necessary to push them before they will pass on the support case to someone who is not just following a script!

Hello James Tindall,

The amount of versions for notarized backups is unlimited. But the cleanup is indeed not possible for this backup type.

Renata, thank you for confirming about how Notary Backup versions to the Cloud are handled for this question.

Thank you, Renata. So I guess since cloud backup space is finite, using the notarize feature on large numbers of files that change frequently is a bad idea. It seems like this should be noted in the documentation somewhere.
