turning encryption on and off as desired

Thread needs solution

I installed ATI2018 and made an unencrypted image of my computer on an ext. HD to be stored in a locked fire safe.  I now wish to make daily encrypted backups of data files to a second ext. HD.  However, the option to do encryption is no longer selectable, it's unencrypted only.  Am I stuck with either or, but not both?  If so, how do I get back to being able to encrypt?

Thanks.

Jencas,  Welcome to these user forums.  Encryption is an option only when you make a new backup.  If a backup is un-encrypted when it is first made, there is no ability to go back and encrypt it.  The only option is to create a new backup and encrypt it.

Thanks for your reply.

The problem is that encryption is not available for a "new" backup.  (I have no desire to encrypt the first backup in any case.)

Jencas,  I am unsure why encryption is not coming up as an option when creating a new backup.  In the pic below, I just created a new task, and Encrypt backup is shown below the destination block.

If it is not showing for new backups, then perhaps you saved the settings from your first backup as 'Default'.  Pic below;

In any case, you should be able to go to the 'Advance' tab and perform the encryption there.

Hopefully, this will work.

Well, I found a way around the problem by removing the first backup and then initiating a new backup.  The removal of the original does not delete the actual backup file, so I'm all set, I think.

I don't really understand what you did exactly.  what do you mean by a new task?  When I tried adding a new backup with the first one still there, encryption was not available/selectable.  I had to delete the original to get encryption active.

Thanks for your reply in any case.
