What is Acronis True Image Activity Files

Today I was running Malwarebytes on my computer and I saw it was taking a long time to check the Acronis activity folder.

So I looked in Program Data, then Acronis folder, then the Activity folder and found 52,711 files in this folder they are all small files but almost 53,000?

What’s all this about they have names like (FFD91872-5800-4076-8ABE-1C4F0399D477) and are all 1 to 5KB in size

What are they for and is it safe to delete them

I am running windows 10 version 1709 and Acronis 2018 with all the latest updates can someone tell me what this is all about.

Edward, the Activity files are used to store activity information for your backup tasks and should not be deleted.  With Acronis Active Protection it is possible that you would be prevented from deleting these files.

Activity is displayed in the main ATI GUI along with Backup & Recovery information.

Edward,  the files are text files and can be read using wordpad or notepad.  There are only 4 files in my activity folder, all dated the same date as when I installed ATI 2018.  52,711 is ridiculous.  Perhaps you could read some of the files and see if there is any hint as to why the files are created.

Edward, I didn't get time earlier to double check this myself but looking at two of my Windows 10 systems with ATI 2018 build #10640 the C:\ProgramData\Acronis\Activity folder on both has no files at all.

Steve,

I confirm your findings on 2 of my machines where I am running version 10640 which has been upgraded with each version of 2018 as they have rolled out.

I can confirm the existence of these files on 1 machine that I skipped several versions of 2018 in upgrading moving from version 1607 to 10640.  That upgrade failed when run web based in app so I had to download the install file, run it to uninstall the app then, reinstall which fixed the issue I had which was that after the upgrade the app was stuck on the Account screen.

OP, does this apply to your situation, did you upgrade to version 10640 for an early release of the product?  If yes, did you have problems with the install?

The particular machine is running a Windows 10 Preview build whereas the other machines are not.  These files in question are quite old dating back to Jan. and Feb. of 2018.  OP, can you confirm the dates on these files?  Are they all old files or are there any recent ones?

This could be the result of an incomplete uninstall in my case where that process did not clear these files which were saved in earlier versions of the product but now in 10640 are not.

I can also confirm Steve's findings. My activity folder is empty. I upgraded from the all the previous builds of TI 2018 in sequence. I'm running Win 10 V1709 16299.192. I think Enchantech is on the right track.

Hi Guys

i have opened one of the files in the acronis activity folder and it tells me nothing

I am running windows 10 pro 1709 Build 16299.192 and i have updated Acronis as new updates are available and my version of Acronis is 2018. Build 9850

All these 52,711 files have been created since 05/01/2018 upto 03/02/2018

PS i have not run Acronis today but a last check of the activity folder it now says only 50,374 so some have gone?

Edward,

I would recommend that first you remove the file content text in your last post or at least remove the blue text links, especially your UserName as this can be viewed by anyone.

Secondly, I would recommend that you upgrade to the latest version release of the product which you can download from your Acronis Account on the Support page.  The most current version is 10640.  Upgrading may well solve the issue and will bring you up to what is the most current version.

I cannot say why your install did not notify you of this latest release unless the option to show updates automatically is unchecked in the app.

If after upgrade the problem persists please post back.

Hi just an update on my problem

First i deleted all the files in the acronis activity folder then i downloaded the latest version and and the activity folder remains empty.

So i have no idea what the problem was

Edward, I can only suggest keeping an eye on the folder for a little time to confirm that nothing starting populating it again.  If there are any further issues, then consider opening a Support Case directly with Acronis to report it.
