Bug - asking for credentials when using PRE (or post) command AND external drive setting to Run missed operations when external device is connected
Steve, I found the issue with PRE scripts not running and can easily repeat and recreate the behavior. I'm hoping you or someone else can test as well to help verify?
Basically, the pre/post script fails to run when using an external backup drive and the option to Run missed operations when external device is connected. Both work just fine individually, but anytime I have both options configured together, I am prompted to enter my Windows login credentials before it runs. It then runs, but only if I provide the credentials.
This appears to be a bug and am looking to see if it can be repeated by others.

Update: Changing the schedule to Daily and five minutes in the future (20:40 local time), then unticking all Advanced options except the one to run missed on device connect, then saving the change brought up my Windows Credentials prompt for the task!
At the schedule time the task changed to be Queued status waiting for the drive to be connected.
Connecting the external drive, the task status changed to Preparing, then ran the Pre Command before showing Backing up... but again, no further prompt for my Windows credentials.

So there may be some similarity in the settings as you were prompted at least once. I posted a video in the MVP forum so you could see exactly what I did, but didn't want to post it here since it shows some of my folder/file names, etc. If you have time, check it out.
I left the external hard drive basically connected the entire time (only disconnected once, but as part of the test). After that, I could reproduce the prompt consistently when a pre command was enabled and the backup when an external device is connected option were enabled.

I am able to consistently recreate this behavior on another completely different system now. I will submit feedback from it as well and then open a support case for it.
