Cannot create VHD from "Other" backup ATI 2019

Thread needs solution

I did search but couldn't find the answer to what must be simple.

I want to create a VHD(x) from a backup made on another computer. I added the computer using "Add Backup" & "Add Existing Backup". Then I right click the backup name and select "Convert to VHD..." I select the most recent backup (I tried older ones too) and the target, which is 4x the space I should need.

The status says "Preparing..." then it switches to the message that would appear if I'd clicked on the big blue button with "i" within it: "This backup was added manually or via auto-search. To create new versions, click 'reconfigure', and then reselect the source." But I don't want to mess with the backup configuration of the other computer, just convert its backup to a VHD(x).

All suggestions appreciated.

I'm not sure it's possible to convert a different backup from another computer that was imported (never tried).  You may want to first try "validating" the imported backup and then try again.

Also, Acronis 2019 only supports .vhd at this time and not .vhdx.  I have been able so successfully convert a local backup from .tib to .vhd on the same system.  I rarely test this though and haven't tried to import and convert that import.

Thanks for the feedback. I am testing failure scenarios and I am assuming the original system boot disk is completely gone so I want to run it as a VM on another machine.

When I try to create the VHD the default, that cannot be changed, is to product a VHDx file (see attached). Though as described I can't do that.

You should be able to build a VM and just restore the Acronis .tib to the virtual disk using the mounted recovery .iso to boot from and restore "offline".

if it's a Win10 OS, this works great. You may have a license issue though as the VM will be considered different hardware to Windows.
