lynn, I appreciate the PM, but prefer to keep the discussion in the forum threads so others can assist who may have ideas.
I don't say this to sound harsh, just honest... I don't have much interest in supporting XP from a personal stand point - the OS is old and deprecated and not worth my own personal time to troubleshoot specific issues on these types of OS installs for other people - especially when they aren't being supported by Microsoft or the original computer vendors. When Windows 7 goes EOL this year, it will go in that same category for me. I'm sure that PC repair specialists love these types of sytems though - because they can be time consuming to diagnose.
That said, hopefully some others may try to chime in if they have an interest. You can also open a direct technical support case with Acronis (not in the forum which is primarily user based) and see if they can dive into your system report and Acronis logs to see if they can help identify the issue.
#1 From a top-level forum perspective to give something to start with, what I can suggest determining if it is a 32 or 64 bit install of XP to see if it is supported or not as per the link above. That is step #1 - is it supported?
#2 If so, After that, run the cleanup tool (make sure to right-click and "run as administrator" even if logged on with an admin account already.
#3 reboot to clean up the registry after the cleanup
#4 check the XP user account that will be installing the software and clear any contents in %temp% - this needs to be an admin account too. Any damaged or leftover install files from a previous or existing version of Acronis may be halting the completion prematurely.
#5... then download the latest version of 2019 installer directly from your account - just to make sure it's current and not corrupt or damaged from a previous download
#6 right-click and "run as administrater" to start the install (even if logged on with an admin account) and fresh install as advised above to see if it helps (or not).
If that doesn't get things to install correctly, then there are probably deeper issues which could exist in your OS, corruption, malware, broken services, etc - no way to tell from here. So, you could consider taking offline backups with your rescue media so that the local OS (XP) is not even part of the issue or solution and backup and recovery occurs all through the rescue media. Although not automated, it's relatively straightfoward to boot into rescue media, start a backup (full or incremental from an existing full) and run it that way - at least as a work-a-round.
Beyond that, you should open a direct technical support ticket with Acornis and work with them to get them the system report and Acronis logs to help determine what is happening at a more internal product level. If this is on a supported OS, ATI 2019 has technical support too. Best to start an email or chat support case to get the ball rolling.
