Installation Acronis True Image 2019 fails for Win 10 32bit machine

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I have a 3 machines license for Acronis True Image 2019 and already installed it on two Win 10 64bit machines. However, installation on the third 32bit machine repeatedly fails with the following error (german):

Produkt:    Acronis True Image 2019
Build:    14690
Datum:    08.01.2019
Zeit:    23:17:07
Weitere Informationen:    Acronis Knowledge Base

I downloaded the installation file three times, to no avail. It unpacks and starts installation to about the half of the progress bar, then fails. Is there a 32bit installer available, or a working older version?

Please advise!

I believe it is actually a 32-bit installer for all systems (32 or 64 bit).  Odd that it fails on that one machine and not the others though.  As it is installing on 2 of 3 machines (are all 32-bit or are the other 2, 64-bit?), it seems more likely an issue with the 3rd machine.

I'd first try clearing out %temp% manually on your machine (it is your user profile in C:\Users\your_user_name\AppData\Local\Temp)

Then, when you run the installer, try opening command prompt with "run as administrator" option.  Then navigate to the .msi installer from command prompt and run it.  This will ensure full admin access on the install, as just using an admin account, may not have the full permissions necessary.  command prompt is needed in this case if the installer is an .msi extension instead of an .exe extension.

Also, where did you get the download from?  You can get it from a couple of places:

1) https://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/updates/  (public links to trial versions, but you can register them later)

2) log into your account:  https://account.acronis.com/#/auth/login

then find your product and download the installer from there.

I'd try both and compare the checksum of the installers to see if they match.  Perhaps there is a bug with one or the other that needs to be reported.

Last, if all else fails, try running the Acronis Cleanup Tool first, reboot the machine and then try the command prompt "run as administrator" option to see if that does the trick...

And as a final thought... have you tried disabling antivirus or malware protection before running the installer?  I haven't heard of any issues with 2019 installations, but in the past, different AV programs have prevented the installation due to the Acronis Active Protection features being enabled during the installation.

I hope one of these suggestions help.  If not, it would be best to contact customer support and troubleshoot with them directly.

Hi,

the other two machines are 64bit. I also manage an installation for another license, where the downloaded installer worked well on two machines. One a Surface Pro with Win10 64bit and the other also 64bit, as I believe (not sure). So it looks like a 32bit issue.

I downloaded the installer from Acronis directly, and from my reseller (edv-buchversand.de). Both did not work on that machine.

The machine in question had True Image 2014 installed before, which I uninstalled prior to the installation of 2019. I will try to re-install the old version if I do not manage it otherwise. First I will try your suggestions. Where do I find that msi installer which I shold run from command prompt? I downloaded an exe file.

Thanks for the help so far!

Skr,

You need to completely remove 2014 in order to upgrade to newer versions of 2019.  That is likely the issue.  I would use the clean tool posted above to completely remove it and then start with a fresh install of 2019.

OK,

I tried all this, and got the same error.

Then, for good will, I tried again, with the intention to stop the process when it unpacked all the installation files to the Temp directory, to follow the advice to run the msi installer from a privileged command prompt. But then accidently I did not stop but let the installer continue it's work.

Guess what. This time, after half a dozen tries, it succeded. I have no explanation other then that this is a really unstable tool. I did not do anything differently, except that I've started the installation six times.

Thanks for the help anyway.

Interesting. I've been using it on 64-bit systems without issue for years.  Definitely requires a full removal of the 2014 version before the 2019 version though.  The clean-up tool is supposed to stop all existing services and remove registry entries, etc, then reboot to clear it all out of cache so you can start fresh. Really not sure what the hang up was beyond that if it was still happening, but glad it sorted itself out.

I forgot the base installer was already a .exe.  That should allow you to right click and "run as administrator" from there or even launch CMD prompt as "run as administrator" and then launch it which should carry over to the .msi anyway.

FYI.. for down the road if you run into issues with other .exe applications, sometimes, they are just wrappers for the install files and the free program 7-zip can be useful for extracting the contents of them if need be.  It isn't always helpful/useful though if there are multiple installers wrapped into the original .exe.  Just depends.
