is it possible to restore bios?

Thread needs solution

OK -- this is a weird question.  Is it possible to back up BIOS and restore it if necessary?  I have a Lenovo laptop I bought a few years ago.  Ever since I got it, whenever I'd boot the laptop, it would bring up a Window (from Lenovo)  asking me to update my Bios.  When I tried to run it, it would give me a warning that the update was only for certain models.  I think I have a different model.  I called Lenovo support, and they thought I shouldn't run it, but couldn't tell me how to stop the popup.  Lenovo has since switched to Lenovo Vantage to do Lenovo updates -- I ran it, and again it is asking me to update my BIOS with the same warning.  Someday I may hit update BIOS, and do something I didn't want to do.  I'm not even sure how one would install a BIOS without using the OS.

Simple answer: No, you cannot use ATI to backup your BIOS.

Most BIOS Update utilities should offer an option to make a backup of the current BIOS before doing an update / upgrade, however, if the BIOS version you are upgrading with isn't intended for your specific Lenovo laptop model, I would live with the pop-up annoyance rather than risk ending up with a doorstop that can no longer boot at all.

Download a copy of the free Belarc Advisor tool and let this create an inventory of your laptop which will include details of your current BIOS version etc.  If you want to post those BIOS details along with the specific Lenovo laptop model information, we can see if there is anything else we can find that may help here?

The screen shot below shows the information from my HP laptop with BIOS details etc.

Thanks for the answer, Steve.  I figured as much.  I'm replying, mainly to acknowledge your answer.  I suppose it would be better for me to take this discussion on a Lenovo forum.
