Problems with 2019

Thread needs solution

I'm using a DELL e6440 with Windows 10. I bought Acronis 2019 but have had a few problems:

1) doing a restore and selecting the .tib, there seems to be a limit of about 32 characters when specifying the location of the .tib. A browse works (but is is not obvious how to find browse).

2) while doing a restore there is no browse option. To force a browse option you have to create an error first.

3) making a rescue media to a thumb drive gives "Invalid partition table" when you try to boot to it.

4) can't restore to a USB drive

5) if you make a rescue media to a thumb drive, it puts on all the files but when you try to boot to it you get "Invalid partition table".

6) if you make a backup and it is put into the root, if you then move it to a folder there is no way to name the folder as the location of the .tib when you try to restore.

Eddy, I am not aware of the problems that you have listed above and am confident that other users in these forums would have made loud noises if they had found these same limitations!

If you are able to recreate these issues, then I would suggest capturing screen shots of all the steps you are following then raising a Support Case for each issue in turn.

Here is problem #1 and 2.
    - I create a backup and let it take the defaults. That defaulted to the root of the destination.
    - I moved the .tib to a sub folder.
    - I tried a restore by selecting Backup then Recovery.
    - I got a message "No data to recover yet".
    - I looked around but can't find a browse button.

    - I wanted to make a small backup so I want to choose my thumb drive.
    - I selected Backup.
    - But all it shows for the source is my system drive.
    - I don't see a way to select any drive other than my system drive.

    - When making a backup I don't see a way to select which partitions I want to backup. It seems to always want to backup the entire disk.

Problem #3:making a rescue media to a thumb drive gives "Invalid partition table" when you try to boot to it.

Sorry Eddy, but ATI is working as expected for the above scenario.  If you move the .tib file for a backup task, then as far as ATI is concerned there is no backup data to recover.

I create a backup and let it take the defaults. That defaulted to the root of the destination.

The answer here is to specify exactly where you want your backup destination to be, not to let it default to the root of the drive.  This is fully under your control to do, and you can adjust the settings as much as you like provided you do so before clicking on the final 'Backup now' button which commits the changes to the task configuration.

- I wanted to make a small backup so I want to choose my thumb drive.
    - I selected Backup.
    - But all it shows for the source is my system drive.
    - I don't see a way to select any drive other than my system drive.

When you create a new Backup task, click through on the Source panel which  will then give you many more choices for what you want to select as your source data, including selecting any other drives connected to your computer.  Your system drive will be selected by default but is the matter of seconds to deselect it and choose something else.

I would recommend that you have a read through the ATI 2019 User Guide and in particular the 'Getting Started' and 'Basic Concepts' sections which will give you a much more detailed understanding of using the product.

Thanks, that information helps. I wonder what the rational is for ATI to not allow you to move a .tib file.

Eddy

Eddy, if you want to move the Destination for a backup task, then select it in the main GUI and then use the Move option from the task menu.  This will then bring up a new window to allow you to browse to the new location where the task should store its files.

The ATI 2019 User Guide has the following description of this option.

  • Move - click to move all the backup files to another location. The subsequent backup versions will be saved to the new location.

If you change the backup destination by editing the backup settings, only new backup versions will be saved to the new location. The earlier backup versions will remain in the old location.
