recovery

Thread solved

I backup the drive volume c:. On recovery it asks if I recover c: and/or track 0. I always recover c: without track 0. It works, but I like to know whats this track 0 option on recovery?

C W, welcome to these public User Forums.

If you are always recovering to the same disk drive then you probably won't need to worry about recovering Track 0 or the MBR, but if that disk drive has been fully formatted or replaced by a new non-initialised disk drive, then these items would normally be needed, as they help point the BIOS to where it can find information needed to boot the computer into the OS.

Once I included track 0 and I had problems recovering because of the choices of where to recover it. It created a problem. What is the simplest way of recovering including this track 0?

It must always be recovered back to the same drive as the other partitions contained in the backup archive image.

The simplest method is to just use the option at the top of the page for the Disk, which will automatically select the items listed below it, and will recover it all without asking for more than just the location for the Disk to be recovered to.

When doing the restore of your backup, this needs to be done as a Disk & Partition restore and at the top Disk selection level.

Please see forum topic: [How to] recover an entire disk backup - and in particular the attached PDF document which shows a step-by-step tutorial for doing this type of recovery / restore.
