Restore a folder backup to a new PC

Thread needs solution

Update: this pretty much answers my question: https://forum.acronis.com/forum/acronis-true-image-2018-forum/restore-new-computer

This doesn't seem to be the `dissimilar system` KB article, as I don't want to restore the entire system.

The backups on PC1 (old PC) are generally folder backups of various VMWare Workstation virtual machines.  When I install Acronis BU on PC2 (new PC), I see and can successfully restore all my Acronis Cloud backups.  I don't see the VM backups, which were backed up to a local external drive.

The only thing I can think to do is copy the VM folders to this external drive, and then recopy to PC2.  These are about 100 GB so copying is slow.  Not a huge problem as it just goes in the background.  Wanted to make sure I'm not missing something.

Greg, welcome to these public User Forums.

The first point that you need to check is that your Files & Folders Backup image file(s) actually contain your Virtual Machine folders and expected contents, which you can do on the source PC1 by double-clicking on the .tib file(s) in Windows Explorer and browsing through the contents.

If the VM folders & contents are present in the .tib file, then there should be no issue with restoring those folders to your second target PC2 by either using the Acronis bootable Rescue Media, or after installing the ATI application on that PC.

I don't see the VM backups, which were backed up to a local external drive.

The cloud backups get added to the console automatically. If you want to see existing backups from an external drive, you need to have the USB attached and then use the "add existing backup" option to import them into the console on the second pc.
