Spinning blue circle after restore ...

Thread needs solution

Windows 10 crashed during an update on an HP zBook G6. I was able to restore to original configuration to create an Acronis rescue media with WinPE in Acronis 2019.

I have a full back-up of the system drive, plus two differential backups. All made with Acronis 2019. These were transferred to a USB drive.

The restore goes smoothly -- no issues whatsoever.

However, upon rebooting the restored machine, Before I get the Windows login screen, I get a spinning blue circle with a randomly flashing pointer cursor. I have tried selecting the full back-up, and then the two differential backups. No luck. I have tried on a different, but similar machine. No luck. I was ]able to back-up and restore the image on the other machine.

There is lots online about fixing this from within Windows, but little from outside.

Suggestions?

Roy, welcome to these public User Forums.

One key aspect when doing an OS system restore is to ensure that the correct BIOS boot mode is used (to match how Windows boots).

KB 59877: Acronis True Image: how to distinguish between UEFI and Legacy BIOS boot modes of Acronis Bootable Media

When doing the restore, you only need to select the most recent backup file, i.e. the most recent differential and Acronis will match this with the original Full backup for that version chain and restore all the data.
