System State question

Thread needs solution

I used to use Windows Restore Points to protect my setup before trying something like a new driver or software.

But Windows 10 has it turned off, and I get it.

I was wondering if Acronis System State backup is similar? Will a System State Backup protect me from bad drive or software installs like Restore Points can?

thanks

A disk and partitions backup will get you back and running, however you will loose all changes to documents etc that were made after the date of the backup being restored. However, you can use a directory and files backup to recovery files separately one the system is up and running. Again, you will loose anything that changed since the last time the directory and files backup was last run. Instead you could run non-stop backup which updates the backfile on a continuous basis. I would run both files and folders and non-stop backup just to be safe (from time to time I have had non-stop backup stop working, but not with ATI 2019 as far as I can remember).

The best solution would be to have all your files located on either a separate partition or even better a separate HDD/SSD. It is possible to move the user directories for documents, photos, videos to another drive. Then you create a separate backup task for that partition.
