windows server 2008 backup and restore

I use Acronis True image at home but have a need to do disaster backup and recovery for a client who has two servers, one a windows server 2008 R2 and another windows server 2012 r2. Does acronis have an app that creates a bootable media for restoring a backup that was made for those servers? They are both RAID.

I would like to backup the entire OS Disk Image to an external USB drive.

I would like to be able to replace the existing RAID array drives with new hard drives (still a RAID)

then I would like to restore the backup I made from the USB drive.

If that works, then I'd also like to make a cloud backup as well that could be used if all else failed.

Is there an Acronis solution for doing this?

Bob, please see the ATI 2019 User Guide: Supported operating systems which does not list either of your 2 different Windows Server versions as being supported.

The above is not a major issue as you would need to do any backup & recovery by using the bootable Acronis Rescue media and the above is mainly focused on where ATI can be installed.

What does become more of an issue is having RAID, and in particular RAID support in the bootable media.

One key element is that the bootable media should 'see' the RAID array as if it is a single drive, not as multiple drives.

Initially, you should follow KB 61632: Acronis True Image 2019: how to create bootable media and KB 61621: Acronis True Image 2019: How to restore your computer with WinPE-based or WinRE-based media as a starting point.  This will give you the standard rescue media that you can test works OK on your own computer.

I would recommend using the MVP Custom ATIPE Builder script - see link in my signature, as this can inject Custom drivers, including the Intel RST drivers for RAID support.

I am switching gears. Reading some of the documentation makes me think that the Backup 12.5 might be a better solution for backing up my Windows Server 2008 R2.

I downloaded the trial and tried to follow the trial instructions. I may have missed one thing though.

Under section 4 entitled Perparation and requirements it says:

Management Server

To install Acronis Backup Management Server, we recommend a physical or virtual machine running
Windows Server 2008 or later. Operating systems starting with Windows 7 are also supported.

▪    The machine must have minimum 4 GB of RAM and 5 GB of free space on the system volume.

▪    Acronis software must not be installed on this machine.

▪    You can use various virtualization software to run the virtual machine: VMware, Virtual PC,
and so on. In Windows 8.x or 10 Enterprise, you can enable the Hyper-V role and use a Hyper-V
virtual machine for testing.

I want to back up the machine I've installed this trial on. Do I need to put this Acronis Backup Management Server on on one of my other computers? It says NOT to put the Acronis software on the machine that I have the management server on. SHould I have checked Cloud based management instead? Yet the first sentence in that section says "The evaluation implies that all Acronis Backup 12.5 components, including the management server, are installed locally in your environment (test lab).  So I'm thinking I should start over or can I? I could put the management server onto my Windows 10 machine, although it also has the Acronis software (True Image 2019) on it. Could I still put that management software there if I don't intend to use the backup 12.5 to backup the Windows 10 box?

This is so confusing.

Thanks for any help.

Bob, sorry but I have never used AB 12.5 (or any other of the business product versions) so not in a position to give you valid advice here.

Would suggest raising this topic in the Acronis Backup 12.5 Forum where you will find experienced users and support.
