Acronis Hijacks You Data Be Aware

Thread needs solution

I was a True Image 2020 user. My subscription has expired I had not planned to continue with this company. I have backups in the cloud that I cannot access because my subscription has expired. It's my backed data that now I can not get to it. It will be deleted in a few days I also do not have access to support. I should be given time to get my data off their server it's my data. The only way I can get to it is if i renew my subscription. That's hijacking.

Charles, please see KB 63207: Acronis True Image 2020 licensing - where it details the way subscription works if you let it expire / don't renew!

Standard license is unlimited in time. Annual subscription means your license is limited for 1 year. You can renew your subscription and continue using the product.

After your Acronis True Image subscription expires, all product functionality will be blocked until further subscription renewal, however, the backed up data is still accessible:

  • For 5 days after subscription expires you can continue making backups, including backups to Acronis Cloud storage.
  • During 30 days after subscription expires you can restore data from Cloud Storage. Thirty days after subscription expiration the data in Acronis Cloud storage is destroyed.
  • Local backups remain available for restore.

I understand Steve

Some of my backup data is stored on their cloud. I'm being told that it will be deleted in 3 days I can't get into True image to recover or download it to another drive and I cannot access the backups from my account. Most if not all software or cloud services will allow you to get your property before it is deleted. Not Acronis as I cannot access my backups to download them for storage. So they are hijacking my cloud backups my property and the only way to get to them is to renew my subscription. This is not good business and I think the users should be aware of this.

Charles, I understand your frustration especially as there is no tool in either ATI 2020 or 2021 to allow the user to download their Cloud backups outside of doing a recovery and the options in the Online Dashboard typically fail with any significant size of file!

Acronis have tried to address this with the latest ACPHO version / build by providing a separate download tool but even this has some limitations as far as what version created the backups held in the cloud!

I can only recommend reaching out to Acronis Support while you still have time before your backups are automatically deleted and see if they can offer you a way to extend the time to allow you to download the data?
