Acronis True Image 2020 Fails to recover files or disks on a NAS
I am using ATI 2020 to attempt to recover files & disks from a NAS server ( QNAP ).
It fails because it cannot see any backup files with the .tibx file extension on the NAS.
However, it can see all files with the .tib file extension.
I am using ATI 2020 on a USB thumb drive to do this as my C drive would normally be disable and being recovered.
Has anyone seen this before and do you have a solution?
Thanks

Jim, what build of ATI 2020 was used to create your USB rescue media? You should be using ATI 2020 build #25700 which was the final one released by Acronis. There was an issue with some very early builds of rescue media which didn't offer the option for both .tib & .tibx correctly but this was fixed a long time ago.
If your ATI 2020 is working correctly, then recreate the USB media using the 'Simple' option of the rescue media builder tool.
See KB 63226: Acronis True Image 2020: how to create bootable media and KB 59877: Acronis True Image: how to distinguish between UEFI and Legacy BIOS boot modes of Acronis Bootable Media

Enchantech: I did check that idea, but it appears OK as (*.tibx; *.tib) Thanks
Steve: Is there a method to tell what Build my Rescue Media is? I did use the simple method. Thanks

Steve, my PC's BIOS runs in Legacy mode. Is that a problem for the Rescue Media? Thanks

Jim, the rescue media build is shown in the top right corner Help or About information when the media is booted.
Using the rescue media in Legacy mode should make no difference here. The key factor with the BIOS boot mode is to match the mode used by Windows, especially if recovering the OS.

Steve, just checked and my rescue media is 25700.
Any suggestions? Thanks

Steve, BTW, before installing ATI 2020, I was using ATI 2017 and it worked perfectly from a rescue media.

Jim, can you post some screen shots of what you are seeing here please?
At the bottom of the 'Browse for location' panel, if you don't see as shown above for 'Files of type: Backup Archives (*.tibx, *.tib)' then try clicking on the v at the right end of that box and see if there are further options shown below what you see?
The above is from ATI 2021 but should be the same as for 2020.

Steve,
Did you use a FTP connection to get that file? Or, did you address it directly with the "192.168.0.29" address?
Thanks
Jim

Jim, I am just using the standard \\192.168.0.29 address notation for my connections without using FTP. The particular image was captured when doing a backup / recovery with one of my VMware virtual machines running Windows 10.

Steve, Here are 2 screen shots of the issue I am having.
In one you will see lots of tib files.
In the other you should see 4 tibx files, but none show up in the QUAD9550 folder.
If I go in that folder and simply rename any of those 4 to be a tib file; it then shows up.
Any ideas?

Jim, your last post has just triggered a missing brain cell that reminded me that FTP backups do not use .tibx files, so there shouldn't be any such files for this task, and the files should still be using .tib files.
See the ATI 2020 User Guide: Backups created in Acronis True Image 2020 or later
The following backups continue to use the TIB format:
- File-level backups
- Nonstop backups
- Notarized backups
- Backups which use CD/DVD/Blu-ray, FTP, or Acronis Secure Zone as their destination

Steve,
This is the best rational information I have received since December. So, how do I solve this?
1) My backup is done every night from my PC and the tibx files are stored on the NAS/QNAP server as xxxxxxxx.tibx files.
2) If I have to retrieve a single file from a few days ago, Acronis 2020 on my PC has no problem finding the file I want from the tibx files.
3) If I have to recover one of my other HDDs ( other than "C" ), Acronis 2020 has no problem finding those tibx files because it is using CIFS (?) not FTP to reach the NAS.
So the question now becomes how do we make the Rescue Media see my NAS properly, which it currently will not.
Any Ideas?
BTW, I am blown away that I am the only person with this issue.

Jim, what format are the file names using on your NAS and how are they being created, i.e. directly on the NAS or on a local disk drive then copied to the NAS ?
The normal name format for .tibx files does not include the _full_b1_s1_v1 naming convention that you see with .tib files, i.e. as shown in your image above.

Steve,
The backup files are created by ATI 2020 running in Win 10 on my PC directly on the NAS, which is drive "Q".
Here are the actual files holding the backups of my "C" drive.
Q:\ActiveData\QUAD9550-V2\QUAD9550-V2.tibx
Q:\ActiveData\QUAD9550-V2\QUAD9550-V2-0006.tibx
Q:\ActiveData\QUAD9550-V2\QUAD9550-V2-0007.tibx
Q:\ActiveData\QUAD9550-V2\QUAD9550-V2-0008.tibx, this one was created early this AM.

Jim, I guess what is confusing me here is that in your screen image, you are using as shown below: ftp://10.0.0.4/...
As above, FTP does not use / create .tibx files, so this suggests that you are using different methods to connect to your NAS, i.e. SMB when creating the files as .tibx but then trying to see them using FTP for recovery? You need to use only the one connection method, especially if the .tibx files are larger than the maximum file size allowed by FTP of 2GB.

Steve,
Now you are getting to the heart of my issue. ATI 2020 works great running on my Windows C drive to backup C, D, E and the F drives periodically each week. When ATI 2020 is running it sees my NAS as drive Q. It goes about the backup and creates tibx files on Q. So far so good.
Now, if I have a failure of any drive other than C, I can run ATI 2020 from C as normal and it will recover the tibx just fine.
BUT, if drive C fails, then Windows is now unavailable and I must use the Rescue Media on a USB drive. Now comes the issue. The Rescue Media brings up the Recovery program and it allows me to see the drives on my PC but NOT in the NAS. However, from the Recovery program, I can access the NAS via FTP and see it. However, as you informed today, ATI 2020 does not see tibx files through FTP. <bummer> I consider this a really poor design feature of ATI 2020. How to save my C drive. Clearly, ATI 2020 cannot do it directly. I believe there is a multi-step process to do it through other PCs but I have not tested it.
Any ideas.

Jim,
If you remove the ftp and the forward slashes from the address field can you see your .tibx files?
Like this: \\10.0.0.4\Mammoth\ActiveData\Falcon Backups\

Enchantech,
Thanks for the suggestion but I have tried that in multiple ways and none of them work. The Rescue Media refuses to acknowledge the tibx files.

Jim, what SMB version does your NAS support? I suspect that it may only support SMB 1.0 and that there is no support for that version in your rescue media!

Jim,
Can you enable SMB in your QNAP settings using the Admin access? It is obvious that you have ftp enabled but if you do not have SMB enabled then your only view will be ftp.
