Acronis True Image Backup Archive File is Corrupted

Thread needs solution

Hi Acronis community, I am having an issue with backing up systems with Acronis True Image 2020 rescue media and I am hoping that someone out there can assist!

On every system that is attempted to be backed up, the backup appears to complete, but when attempting to recover the archive that was generated, I get the message, "Acronis True Image backup archive file is corrupted. If the backup is an image, you may try to recover data from it by mounting the image and recovering intact data."

I am using usb drive rescue media, and am backing up onto an external hard drive as a .tib. I can confirm that the external hard drive is not the culprit as the issue occurs on multiple external hard drives. As well, backing up fully succeeds on the same external drives when using some older Acronis 2018 rescue media sticks.

I can also report that this does not appear to be an issue with the rescue media, as the issue has occurred on 3 different usb sticks, each being reformatted and rebuilt multiple times. I have attempted to create the media from WinPE has both Windows Recovery Environment as well as Windows 10 ADK.

The issue does not appear to be driver related due to, as I have mentioned, some older Acronis 2018 sticks do work, and I am positive that they do not have up-to-date drivers injected. I have also confirmed that this occur across multiple systems with multiple driver sets. I also tried to create recovery media with every single available driver injected from a device, and confirmed that the issue is still present.

And finally, the issue does not appear to be related to the particular system, as the issue has been replicated across multiple systems in different states (out of the box from manufacturer, already imaged, etc.)

Recovering from existing files or from working backups ripped from Acronis 2018 is working just fine!

Hoping you can assist me with some next steps, thanks for your time!

Chris, welcome to these public User Forums.

I am using usb drive rescue media, and am backing up onto an external hard drive as a .tib.

The above is the reason why the backup files are considered to be corrupt - ATI 2020 does not create .tib files for Disk & Partitions backups - these are created as .tibx files.

Rename the extension from .tib to .tibx and they should be fine!

See the following KB documents published by Acronis with regards to .tibx files.
