ATI 2020 will not backup
Hello, after a year away from Acronis, after it failed to backup, I have decided to give it another go.
I have attached a screen print of the page when I try to back up. Nothing happens, just freezes, same as before.
Windows error: (0x800423F3) VSS writer 'ASR Writer' with class ID 'BE000CBE-11FE-4426-9C58-531AA6355FC4' has failed to process the snapshot.
I have tried to generate a system report, with out any success.
VSS Doctor report attached
I have a Perpetual licence
I am using Window 10 64 bit version 10.0.19041
I hope you can assist, as I have not done a successful backup and retrieve with Acronis for over 2 years
kind regards,
Peter

Thanks for your help , Sam, but it did not work. I have attached a screen print of the VSS Doctor errors, and it is all to do with the VSS Writers. There is no "Fix" option in that software.
I am trying to backup C: drive to K: drive, an external hard drive. Both were cleared by CHKDSK, no errors
I have tried all the VSS options in the Performance drop down menu on Advanced tab, same problem each time
hoping you can suggest a way forward

I have been into Services window on Win 10 and System Writer and most of the others are not there. The only relevant one in the list of failed writers in VSSDoctor is sqlSErver writer

Peter, I can only suggest looking at the following help documents and trying the steps that they suggest.
KB 36200: Acronis Cyber Backup: VSS Troubleshooting Guide - look in particular at the Known Issues table where the top entry relates to one of the VSS issues you are seeing, i.e. the System Writer being Failed, Timed out.
KB 46893: Acronis True Image: Backup Fails - for general troubleshooting suggestions.
Beyond the above, then it will be a matter of trying to isolate and identify the cause for these issues?
Doing a Windows Restart (if not already done) often cures some strange issues!
Resetting Windows System Protection settings can resolve some VSS issues but at the cost of losing any system restore point data.
Creating a series of smaller backup tasks, i.e. if you currently are doing an 'Entire PC' type backup that includes multiple disk drives, then create new separate backups starting with a single disk, and if that still gives errors, try selecting individual partitions one by one to see if the issue is general to the whole system or is related to a specific disk or partition.
If this seems to be a system wide issue, then use the following sequence of commands to check for and repair any system issues:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth SFC /scannow
Note: the above need to be run from an Administrator Command or Powershell prompt window.

Hi all, just before receiving the post from Enchantec above, I successfully did two backups in separate operations to my large 6TB K external drive. I was able to backup my Windows C drive partition located on my dedicated Windows 10 SSD, and then my H drive from another internal HDD.
I did this by formatting the small partition T that the VSSDoctor found had inadequate space. It was an unused partition on the SSD drive, only 500MB and I had previously ignored it as it was nothing to do with the C drive partition I was backing up.
After this successful backup, this small T drive is nowhere to be seen on my system, but I have identified it as Partition 4 on the SSD drive , shown on the attached screen print. Weird!
I also went into Backup /Options/ Advanced/ and changed the VSS writers to "Acronis VSS" and set them as default.
I will have a go at re-registering the VSS writers with the software recommended by Enchantec above. Many thanks for all your help and suggestions everyone, I am able to finally backup with Acronis after 2 years of frustration that even the Acronis techs could not fix.
My kind regards
PJ
