backups moving

Thread needs solution

Win 10 and Acronis True Image 2020

I do have a drive G: (NTFS) with several Acronis backups

can I make it a Secure Zone while the backups remain?

Simple answer = No!  The ASZ uses FAT32 file system format and to change from NTFS to FAT32 will require the drive being reformatted and any stored data being lost if using the whole size of the drive.

In addition, ASZ uses its own file naming format for backup files which have to be created by ATI in the ASZ, not moved from a NTFS partition.

The final comment is that the maximum file size for FAT32 is 4GB so if your backups are larger than this, they would be segmented in to a number of 4GB chunks instead of being stored as a single file.

Personally, I can see zero benefit of using ASZ - it is not particularly secure as is just a modified FAT32 partition and the limitations with file naming, handling and size are all negative for me!

If you want better security, then use a BitLocker encrypted NTFS drive for your backups for superior protection versus ASZ.
