Clone RAID 1 to single SSD

Thread needs solution

Hi there,

I have a RAID 1 system that runs Windows 7. I would like to resolve this RAID and clone the system directly to a single SSD.
The problem I have with the True Image Boot DVD, as soon as the cloning starts, I get an error message that the cloning cannot be carried out, unknown error.
Since I have to update the system with Windows 7 to Windows 10 in a timely manner, would you need quick advice?

Could it be that I am not using Universal Restore?

Mark, how many disks are in your RAID 1 array here and how do they present when you boot from the Acronis rescue media?

For any cloning operation to work, the RAID needs to be implemented in the BIOS and present the array as a single drive.

The other factor here is the version of the Acronis rescue media being used?  If you are using the Linux based media, then this does not have any support for RAID (when additional device drivers are needed such as Intel RST), so will not see the RAID array in this case.

I would recommend making a Full backup (Disks & Partitions) of your working Windows 7 OS to an external backup drive before attempting further clone operations.  This would allow you to remove the RAID array and drive(s) then install the new single SSD in your computer.  After doing this, you should be able to restore the backup to the new SSD without RAID being involved, though you may still have to deal with a change in SATA controller mode from RAID to AHCI.

You should not need to use the Acronis Universal Restore media for doing a change of disk drive on the same physical computer - this is intended for use when migrating an installed OS image to different computer hardware (motherboard, CPU etc).
