File System Error ? ? ?

Thread needs solution

0

True Image 2020 has its latest update, and will not create an image of my C - drive. After running a few minutes, it generates an error stating there is an error with file system. I ran several check-disk commands, there is nothing wrong with the files, or their structure.

Kendall, welcome to these public User Forums.

File system errors can originate from hidden / system partitions on your OS drive, there are normally at least 2 or 3 such hidden partitions which do not have a drive letter to allow use with CHKDSK, so are not checked when you use that command.

Dedicated diagnostic utilities from the disk manufacturers take the longest time to complete the checks, but provide the most accurate methods of checking whether the disk is good or needs replacement:

 - Western Digital drives: Western Digital Dashboard

 - Seagate disks: SeaTools for Windows

 - HGST disks: HGST Windows Drive Fitness Test (WinDFT)

 - Intel SSDs: Intel Memory and Storage Tool (GUI)

 - Samsung drives: Samsung Magician

 - ADATA drives: ADATA SSD ToolBox

 - Kingston SSDs: Kingston SSD Toolbox, Kingston SSD Manager

 - Transcend SSDs: Transcend SSD Scope

 - Silicon Power disks: SP ToolBox

 - Toshiba disks: Toshiba PC Diagnostic Tool Utility

 - Crucial disks: Crucial Storage Executive

 - SanDisk disks: SanDisk SSD Dashboard tool / SanDisk SSD Dashboard user guide

It this is true about the hidden partitions, then one would think Acronis would allow for this in the design of their software, and would skip these hidden partitions (look past them). As it stands right now Acronis has not given me a fix or solution.

Nine months ago when I did my fresh install of Windows 10 on my new PC, Acronis created an image with no issues, other than software and apps installed, I sure the same hidden partitions were present then.

Kendall, an image of your C: partition without including the hidden / system partitions would be of zero value as those partitions are required for the OS to boot correctly.  I expect that if you tried any other backup application you would see the same issue being reported!

Regardless of being able to make a good backup nine months ago, file system errors can creep in at any time without any obvious symptoms until such time as you attempt to access those specific areas of the disk drive.  The hidden / system partitions are being updated regularly as Windows installs new updates for the OS.

Besides TRIM, and thought SSD's regularly ran self-checking to avoid the drive have bad areas.
I ran a full scan with Magician, came back with one red square. As soon as recovery is selected, you get an instant error, recovery failed. Recovery has stopped for an unknown reason. I guess I have to try to reach out to Samsung, drive is still under warranty.
