Help with restoring Boot Partition from Bootable Media.
General setup:
Windows 10 PC, 2 physical discs, boot partition C: and data E: on one drive, data D: on the other, Acronis TIH 2021 installed:
Problem:
Needed to restore a previous backup of boot partition following lock-up problem in Windows 10:
ATIH Issue:
I can boot up from either a pen drive or a DVD created from ATIH and select the backup for restoration. However, after a lot of faffing about, it keeps telling me it cannot lock Drive G (where did G come from?) and to re-boot in Linux. Well, that's exactly what I am doing by booting from the recovery media, aren't I. Eventually, using another Windows User, I've been able to restore the backup I needed, but the whole idea of the bootable media is to recover a complete boot partition crash. If I can't do that, I'm left very vulnerable. Anyone have a suggestion as to what the problem might be, please?

The final comment is that this lock issue can also be a matter of timing, and retrying the failed operation with a pause of 10 - 30 seconds in-between can overcome the timing and allow the lock to be achieved! I have seen this with my own systems and have retried a number of times before it then went ahead without needing to do anything else.
This happens frequently to me, and have had the same experience.

Thanks Gents,
I've already tried the 'Shutdown while holding the Shift Key' solution but to no avail. I've also tried the 'Retry' option several times but as it takes a very long time scanning the G:/F: drives each time, it was all getting a bit tedious I'm afraid. Would it not be a good idea to have the recovery software itself do a few retries before giving up instead?
I've been relying on Acronis for a good few years, but I'm seriously considering looking elsewhere for a backup/recovery solution now.
Nick.

Nick, I agree that this issue is very frustrating when encountered and can occur even when the target drive has been prepared using the 'Add new disk' tools option.
The only suggestion I can offer here would be to try to remove / disconnect any extra drives that are in the system to leave only the target drive for the recovery operation, to reduce any time spent in scanning drives.
Acronis have moved on from the True Image product and are now only focussed on their new 'flagship' Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office product with integrated antivirus protection etc. All support for older Acronis products including ATI 2021 is no longer available and no new fixes for any issues identified will be provided, so the only option going forward would be to 'upgrade' to ACPHO which requires an ongoing annual subscription beyond a 30-day trial period.

Dear Nick B,
We would also recommend to install the trial version of Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office and check if the problem is reproducing you can contact the support without any hesitation.
