Linked backup files
Hello,
I've been using Acronis True Image 2020 now for a few months and created multiple backup files.
But when I delete an old backup file I can't open a new backup file, like they are linked to each other.
How can I solve this?
Greetings René Koster

Is there a setting to make independent backups?

No such setting to make truly independent backups.
See forum topic: Full Backups no independent entity - There is a zipped powershell script here in that topic which moves full backup files to another location to help keep them completely independent of each other.
See forum topic: How to create a Disk backup as .tib (not .tibx) which will create a new backup task using the older .tib format in the Windows ATI 2020 GUI.
The recommended method with ATI 2020 is to set your backup scheme and 'automatic cleanup' settings such that you do not need to delete any backup files yourself.
For example:
If you calculate the space required to create say 2 version chains of Incremental backups with 5 incremental files plus the initial Full backup, plus space for a further Full backup file, then ATI will manage all the deletions and minimise the issues of dependency between the remaining files.
This is the approach that I have been using across multiple versions of ATI where I leave all the backup files alone and let ATI manage them on my backup drives. With all the files present and correct, there have not been any issues when I have needed to do any recovery or restore.

This knowledge is all very disappointing. The fact that all backup files are linked doesn't make the handeling of backups any easier. For now I went back to ATI 2019. Maybe you can choose for tib or tibx in the future.

Hello Rene,
I've added your comment as a vote for the existing change request (internal ID TI-190052 Implement Independent Full backups) Thank you!
