Prevent Backup/Restore of hidden/deleted files

Thread needs solution

Hi,

To sell my Dell Windows 10 Desktop PC with a clean ssd I tried the following.

1. Deleted all personal data from the PC and used the tool CCleaner to do some housekeeping

2. Created a full backup with True Image 2021 of the drive with all volumes

3. Successfully wiped the ssd with the Dell Bios maintenance tool for M2 SSDs

4. Restored the full backup and started the PC again

5. But still the tool EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard can recover my deleted personal data files

Question: True Image also backups deleted data?

Best regards

Frank

Frank, welcome to these public User Forums.

For your scenario where you are wanting to sell your Dell PC, I would suggest not restoring a backup at all!

Wipe the SSD or else put in a spare / new SSD that has never had any of your data on it.

Do a clean install of Windows 10 on the PC with just the default operating system components and let whoever buys the PC decide on what else they want to install.  The benefit of doing this is that there will be none of the bloatware that Dell (and other makers) push on the PC which is not needed!

Windows 10 will be reactivated based on the hardware signature of the PC because had been activated previously to that hardware.

You can download the Windows 10 installer from the Microsoft Windows 10 Download web page or use the Media Creation Tool from the same to create either an install DVD or USB stick.

If needed use the free Double Driver tool to extract a copy of the installed device drivers used on the Dell PC before wiping the SSD again - copy the drivers to a spare USB stick or CD etc.  Then if any drivers are needed after doing the clean install of Win 10, you will have them ready!
