Rescue Media cannot find network hard drives

Thread solved

I use ATI 2020, build 38600. I backup to external HD connected to NetGear router. Backup works fine. Recovery appears to load OK, but I haven't actually needed to use it. I have created rescue media on a flash drive 5 different ways: simple, advanced-WinPE, advanced-Linux, MVP method, and .iso download from Acronis. All can boot and load properly but archive selection-no items to display. When I browse nothing shown on NAS or network. Rescue media on previous ATI versions always could find network backups.

I am at a loss as to how to make the rescue media find my backups on network HDs. This makes ATI rescue media useless should my PC fail to boot.

Work-Around

If I connect the HD directly to the PC, then boot from the rescue media and try to recover, archive selection-no items to display. If I then browse, I can find the files on the HD and assume recovery would work. I guess I could live with this work-around but it would be great If the rescue mmedia worked as intended.

Any ideas?

Terry,

I also have an HDD connected to an ASUS router that I store backups on.  Using the boot media to access the files is not intuitive to say the least.  In addition, if you are recovering an OS disk image than I would suggest that you use the Simple WinPE version of the media for the best driver support.

To access your backup files it is necessary to know the servername\sharename  of your router to help you Browse to the network location. I will use my own device as an example here.  When attempting to locate the files use the Browse option in the explorer like window of the app.  In the path field that precedes the Browse button type the path of your share location as follows:

\\RT-AC3100-EEC0\Backups\

servername\sharename\

If your share is password protected then somewhere along the line while typing a Credentials box will appear.  Enter your username and password to continue typing the path.  Following the sharename is typically a folder name followed by the backup filename.  At some point while typing the app should locate the folder containing the backup and should display your backup files for selection.

It does seem rather odd that it worked OK on earlier versions of ATI recovery media, but not ATI 2020 recovery media. Do you have to give a user name and password to access the HDD attached to the Router? Can you see any directories on the HDD attached to the router? What is the minimum SMB set on the router?

Nothing can be added in the path field before the browse box. When I click browse, I get the list of connections to search: cloud, FTP, My NAS, C: drive. NAS shows nothing, Nothing added to the File path box activates the "OK" button. All 5 Secure Media methods give the same results - PC start, ATI page opens, cannot see HD connected to router - "no items to display". No request for user name, password.

If someone is able to access router attached HDs with Secure Media, I'd like to know how. Otherwise the work-around descibed in my OP will have to suffice.

Thanks for yur coments.

The Recovery Wizard screen "archive selection" shows "no items to display"

Nothing can be added in the path window before the browse buttion.

The browse button shows items under my Computer including cloud, MyFTP, My NAS, C:. Click on My NAS shows "no items to display"  There is a filename box but nothing added there activates the "OK" click box. I've tried all the Secure Media versions listed in my OP, including WinPE which is listed under advanced. All give the same result.

The only thing I see is MyNAS with no option to add anything further. My router and hard drives do not require user name or password. No credentials box appears.

If others can use Rescue Media to connect to nework HDs, I'd like to know how they do it. Most comments about Rescue Media are about problems creating it and getting it to start and open the ATI screen. That works fine for me.

In summary, Rescue Media cannot see the HD connected my Netgear router. The ATI desktop program has no problem with this. The only way that works with the Rescue Media is if I disconnect the HD from the router and reconnect to the PC. Then I can access the backup files.

Thanks for the comments.

Terry,

Please see the link below.  In that link scroll down about half way through the page and look for the heading - Bootable Media/Acronis Startup Recovery Manager.  The instructions there may help to resolve your issue.

Acronis NAS not detected

Although I had been to the link you provided before I posted, a SERIOUS BREAK-THROUGH this time!!!

After going to browse, with the cursor still on MY COMPUTER (at the top), I entered "\\readyshare\" in the filename box and my router connected HDs showed up. I was asked for credentials, user name & pw. My HDs are not secured with credentials. I entered a space for both and connected. I can see my backup folder and assume I could restore from there. SUCCESS!!!

As an aside, why does my post not appear on the ATI 2020 forum page? How did you folks find it? The only way I can access it is via my account created topics. I guess I don't understand how the forum works.

Thanks for your help and patience.

Terry,

Glad the issue is resolved for you.
