Restoring an Acronis True Image WD edition backup from a hard drive to a SSD.

Thread needs solution

Hi,

My laptop hard drive has failed, luckily I have a backup using Acronis True Image WD edition.

Rather than buying a normal hard drive I'm thinking of getting a SSD hard drive to replace the failed one.

My question is can I restore my backup of my normal hard drive onto the SSD without any issues using Acronis True Image WD edition?

Regards...

Andy.

Andy, welcome to these public User Forums.

Providing you are doing a straight one for one replacement of your failed HDD by a new SSD then there should be no issues with restoring your ATI backup to the SSD.

The key issue that you need to be careful of is to do the restore booting from the Acronis rescue media booted using the same BIOS mode as your Windows OS uses.

See KB 59877: Acronis True Image: how to distinguish between UEFI and Legacy BIOS boot modes of Acronis Bootable Media

Note: In order to use any OEM version of ATI such as your WD version, it needs to find a WD drive installed or connected to the laptop.  This is a limitation of the OEM versions to restrict them to work only with drives provided by the vendor supplying the ATI software.

See KB 2201: Support for OEM Versions of Acronis Products which applies to your OEM version of ATI from WD
