Tibx backups are NOT visible under the recovery backup Tab

Thread needs solution

I have made a DATA backup with ACI 2020 -> that was automatically filed as a tib file. These backups can also be found and acted in the recovery tab. OK. I have made an ACI 2020 DRIVE backup -> that was saved as a tibX file. These backups are NOT visible under the recovery backup Tab. There is just a note: "There is no data to restore - create your first backup ... " etc. - ????? But the tibx files are correctly located on the chosen backup location on an external HDD (such as previously AVI 2017). What to do ?

Dirk, sorry but I haven't come across this particular issue as far as I can remember.

Please confirm that you have the latest build 21400 for ATI 2020 (shown on the Account page)

Did you uninstall ATI 2017 first before installing ATI 2020 as advised in the User Guide:

Upgrading from old versions of Acronis True Image

If your current version of Acronis True Image is Acronis True Image 2018 or Acronis True Image 2019, the new version will simply update it; there is no need to remove the old version and reinstall the software. If your current version is older, we recommend that you remove the current version, first.

Hello,

I have the same problem ATI 2020 build 21400 : the Recovery function doesn't detect the backup.tibx file on an USB stick if Boot and Backup drive are on the same stick.

  1. 3 screenshots showing the USB stick partition and drives (boot and backup)
  2. I made photos of the steps to recover the system from this USB stick. I guess the backup.tibx file is on drive "I".

Regards, Uwe

Uwe, please give all your drives clear volume names so that you can identify them correctly when booted from rescue media as drive letters are unlikely to be the same as you see when booted into Windows.  See below for how my own drives / partitions are named so that I can easily identify them when needed.

Hi Steve,

thanks for the answer but that's not the problem. All partitions and drives on the PC and the USB stick are assined to a volume name and a unique drive letter. Please check the screenshot. This is the status when the USB stick is pluged-in.

Datenträger 0 is the internals SSD with Windows system and a working partition (drive D, ReisePc_Daten)

Datenträger 1 is the USB stick I want to use to recover the Windows system. This USB stick as it is now was created by ATI2020 and on drive E (BackupreisePc) is the backup created before.

All other partitions on the PC and the USB stick are system partitions and can't get a drive letter.

regards, Uwe

Uwe, is your backup drive encrypted by BitLocker?

no, it's not

Ok, then I am not sure why but I don't see your backup drive listed in your earlier screen images!

Please try creating the MVP Custom WinPE version of the rescue media which has a built in file manager that is useful for exploring all the drives connected in that environment and may help show if the drive is present but with another drive letter?

Do you have another drive that you could copy the tibx files to and then test with?

Hi Steve,

thanks for the hint. Using the MVP Custom WinPE took some time (had to install ADK + WinPE-Addon) works and shows the backup on the USB stick. Have to test the recovery now.

But this should not be the default way to install the boot partition (+ boot programs) and the backup partition (+ backup.tibx file) on the same USB stick.

Regards, Uwe

Uwe, good to read that the MVP WinPE media does show the backup files correctly, though still a puzzle as to why the normal media doesn't?

The MVP tool can use the Windows Recovery Environment PE files without having to install the ADK and add-on files.

I have to admit that I tend to use the MVP PE media in preference to any of the standard Acronis media - it has many more features that I find useful, including the file manager, web browser, snapshot capture etc, plus you can add other tools such as CCleaner if needed.

Hi Steve,

I was a little bit unsteady because in the setup procedure one has to decide with or without ADK. And as far as I understood without is without Acronis. Maybe I'm wrong but now it works - also the recovery was successful.

Thanks, Uwe

Steve, I get the exact same issue reported by Ewe.

I created the Acronis Survival Kit and the backups onto a 3TB external (USB 3.0) drive.

    3-   d(0) GPT   2.7T USB   0-0-0    ST3000NC 000 0105
                                      MBR                                ------
                                      GPTpri                             -----v
      -1       ----    2G    2G  1.2G FAT32  0B FAT32        ACRONIS HM. A-cH-V
      -2       --CE  2.7T  2.7T  2.7T NTFS   07 NTFS, HPFS   Backup..... --c--V
                                      GPTbck                             ------

When I boot from this drive, I get the exact same screens and Acronis does not find any backups.

Darrel, welcome to these public User Forums.

How are you booting the Survival Kit drive from the BIOS?

Are you booting using Legacy / CSM / MBR boot mode, or are you booting using UEFI / GPT boot mode?

If using Legacy / MBR mode, then MBR systems have a disk size limitation of max 2TB size, so could have issues seeing your 3TB drive / contents.

If using UEFI / GPT mode then there should be no issue with your 3TB drive.
