Well,  the last update was , way back in November 2019, many months ago.

We are almost at the end of the first quarter 2020.

With all the problem discussions we have seen over the past several month, one would think it is about time for a refreshing update ????   Something to let us know things are actually being cporrected and updated ??

How about a clue, acronis ??

Steve, much as I agree with you that a further update is due (or overdue!), I suspect that the global coronavirus pandemic is stealing the focus at present (as is only right it should!).

Steve,

Your probably right !

At least they can claim that.... I wonder where the programmers actually are ?  Russia ?

I thought that was the least infected area of the globe... maybe I am mistaken .

Have a safe week Steve !

Also, considering that the initial release of ATI 2020 seemed to be a bit rushed, maybe it's a good thing that they are taking their time time with the update  I have no idea how many people upgraded to ATI 2020.  If the majority of users stayed on earlier versions then Acronis has some breathing room to correct the problems.  That's not good news for those that already upgraded, but it is good news for those that have not made the move yet.

Last update almost 5 months ago.  With everything going on...wouldn't be surprised if the 2021 version released before the next update

Bob,

I am beginning to feel the same way.

With all the TI 2020 problems, complaints and glitches still rearing its' ugly head on our desktops and here in the forums, one would think that April 2020 would have been long enough to get some items corrected and publish an update 3.  The last update was in November 2019.  If they can wait another 4 - 5 months, they can call it TI 2021.

I think some allowance is in order given the current pandemic conditions currently.  Many people from many locations, some of whom are probably under lock down now, are needed to bring updates/upgrades to the table.

Enchant,

I believe you are absolutely correct with some allowances, however, there are loads of us now working from home which makes our backup systems even more critical.  As for me, I have resorted to making bi-weekly backup images using TIH 2016 from a bootable media along with my normal TIH 2020 daily and weekly backups.

I have also tested restoration from each system to my test disks because I lost confidence in running a TIH 2020 only backup system.  I love TIH so I am sticking with it but am anxious for an update to slow some of the reported failures and anomalies.

One of the greatest things Acronis has going for it is the MVP's , Forum Hero's and forum participants that are so willing to help us.  For that, I am definitely grateful !

Regards,

Steve F.

Hear, Hear.....

The value of the MVP team can not be expressed enough!!

I, for one, have received great help with several issues over several years!

Thanks very much, guys

Robert

Hello Everyone,

Acronis True Image 2020 Update 3 has been released!

I wouldn't call it an Update. It is barely a Patch.

Yes, it does look more like a patch - Patrick noted that you can now mount *.tibx files - ATI 2020 Update 3 - The ability to rename backups tasks Important functions still missing.

Ian

You would have thought that would have been mentioned in the release notes. Thanks

Sorry but .tibx files cannot be mounted after this new update as documented in the release notes for the same.  Updated release notes: ENDEJPCN

Hello All,

I was really hoping the rename feature would be present.  o well..maybe next update ?

I was also hoping that the Differential backup speed would be a bit better but I am seeing the same pokey results.

I get about 1,200 Mbps when doing a Full Backup and about 124 Mbps for differentials using update 2.  No appreciable changes between update 2 and 3.  It takes about 25 minutes for a full backup of a 220 GB disk and 10 minutes to do a 9.7 GB differential.

I really was expecting to see a bit of improvement with the differential backup.

I have added a screen shot of the update 3 test.  The differential backup speed was about HALF the update 2 recorded speed.  We will see what subsequent tests show.

Not as far as I understand and not mentioned in the release notes for Update 3 either.

Seems like Acronis has stopped considering the deficiencies with .tibx to be features.

Update 2 to ATI 2020 includes, as included with the release message, has a list of deficiencies:

  • Acronis True Image 2020 introduces a new technology for disk-level backup. The technology is still being improved, so you might encounter the following limitations:
    • TI-169821 Backup conversion to VHD format is not present for the new backup format, *.tibx.
    • TI-171553 Moving backups by using the Acronis True Image console is not available for the new backup format, *.tibx.
    • TI-169548 Renaming local backups is not supported for the new backup format, *.tibx.
    • TI-172340 Backup mounting option is not supported for the new backup format, *.tibx.
  • TI-172086 After the second launch of a local disk backup with the "Version chain" scheme, Acronis True Image creates a differential backup instead of a full backup.
  • TI-168969 Acronis Universal Restore Media Builder cannot detect external USB hard drives as destination for media creation.

Update 3 to ATI 2020 simply says:

What's new for Win:

 - Bugfixes and other improvements

  • [Win] Crash in application TrueImage.exe (Heap corruption) - TI-182129
  • [Win] SSL certificate issue - TI-191760, TI-173951, TI-183037
  • [Win] "URI is invalid" - TI-188858
  • [Win] Anti-ransomware service crash - TI-181832

Does that mean that all the known issues with Update 2 have been fixed in Update 3 (he says, biting his tongue) or that the 2019 .tib features are gone for good, no VHD etc.

Richard

I would assume that only the items listed in the What new are issues that have been addressed in update 3 release.

Hi! Mounting, moving, renaming and converting to .vhd options for .tibx archives have been added in Acronis True Image 2021 only.
