Updating to ATI 2021
Will tibx files created by ATI 2020 work properly with ATI 2021 software?
This is a really important question.
Thanks.

Steve,
It was just suggested to me by Acronis Support that I try ATI 2021 and it should solve the issue.
It did not and they expect me to pay for it which is not going to happen.
And now, the ATI 2021 Uninstall is failing.
Any ideas; I am not a happy camper.

Jim, what particular issue was meant to be solved by trying ATI 2021?
Did you actually purchase an upgrade or just install a 30-day trial copy of ATI 2021?

The issue has always been the inability of the Rescue Media to see tibx files on QNAP; that has not changed.
No, I did not buy a 2021 copy. I eventually uninstalled it and just now re-installed 2020.
I have decided to give up on my QNAP server for backups and just use local HDDs which will work, I hope.

Jim, provided you are not using FTP for the connections to the NAS, then there should be no issues with accessing .tibx files from both the rescue media or the Windows ATI app.
Is the QNAP server a dedicated NAS box, or is this being hosted on a Windows Server box?

QNAP is the manufacturer. It contains 4 HDDs in RAID array and runs Linux. I really recommend QNAP servers.
We use it in the house for all common file storage on the network between 3 PCs.

Jim, thanks for clarifying. I have no experience with QNAP NAS devices but do have a Synology NAS that I use for my own PC's at home and which has .tibx files stored on that I have accessed via my WinPE rescue media (created using the MVP Custom PE Builder tool).
I did a test of both Backup & Recovery of one of my VMware virtual systems booted from my rescue media recently so that I could capture screen images of that process.
The first step after booting into the WinPE ATI environment is to check that you have network connectivity by using a Command prompt window and pinging the NAS to show it is accessible and responding!
Next step is to establish connectivity to the NAS in the ATI application (2021 in my images).
Once you see 'Connected successfully', you can then navigate to where your .tibx files are stored.
At this point the recovery was performed fine.

Steve,
In your 1st photo, the cmd prompt is used. How did you bring it up? ie what command was entered?
In the 2nd and 3rd photos, there are 2 button choices: OK and Cancel. My OK button always remains greyed out. Does yours do that as well?
Thanks

Jim, this is one of the benefits of using the MVP Custom PE version of the rescue media, in that it provides a PE desktop environment with a bottom task bar where you can click on an icon to launch an Administrator command prompt window, open a file explorer, notepad, browser etc.
To get to the command prompt from the 'Simple' WinPE rescue media, you need to close the main ATI windows that is shown, then you will see the command prompt hidden behind this where you will see:
X:\windows\system32>wpeinit X:\windows\system32>"X:\Program Files\Acronis\TrueImageHome\trueimage_starter.exe" Terminate batch job (Y/N)? n X:\windows\system32>
You may need to press Ctrl+C to bring up the new prompt ready for entering commands.
When you are finished, copy the second command shown to relaunch the ATI application.
X:\windows\system32>dir L: Volume in drive L is Seagate250gb Volume Serial Number is 1052-D550 Directory of L:\ 07/11/2020 00:08 46,379,683,840 MyBackup(1).tibx 05/11/2020 00:51 45,030,981,632 MyBackup.tibx 2 File(s) 91,410,665,472 bytes 0 Dir(s) 158,538,076,160 bytes free X:\windows\system32>"X:\Program Files\Acronis\TrueImageHome\trueimage_starter.exe" X:\windows\system32>
In the 2nd image, you need to click on the bar above the OK and Cancel buttons, to 'Test authentication and connection' before the buttons are enabled.
Note: you can bypass the connection panel by using the Command prompt if you prefer, i.e. in the command window, use 'Net use' commands to establish the connection to the NAS.
X:\windows\system32>net use /? The syntax of this command is: NET USE [devicename | *] [\\computername\sharename[\volume] [password | *]] [/USER:[domainname\]username] [/USER:[dotted domain name\]username] [/USER:[username@dotted domain name] [/SMARTCARD] [/SAVECRED] [/REQUIREINTEGRITY] [/REQUIREPRIVACY] [/WRITETHROUGH] [[/DELETE] | [/PERSISTENT:{YES | NO}]] NET USE {devicename | *} [password | *] /HOME NET USE [/PERSISTENT:{YES | NO}] X:\WINDOWS\system32>net use Z: \\192.168.1.100\Backup /user:USERNAME PASSWORD

Steve: We are in business! Your process using "net use" works perfectly. It took me a couple of tries to get the parms right for the command and the authentication and then Bingo! I had a new drive.
I went back into the Recovery Program and it could see everything on that new drive ( *.tib and *.tibx ) on the QNAP server.
Many, many thanks!
