URGENT - Recovery operation failed - HELP

Thread needs solution

Hi all,

I have a Surface pro 4, i ran a full backup last week to an external hard drive and validated it.

I had to send my SP4 for repair and got it back.

I am booting into the Acornis Restore from USB media, i plug in the external HDD via usb hub, the backup is recognised, i then set which partition to restore and then start the restore and as soon as i start it, I get the message

Recovery Operation Failed

Can anyone help me with this? i need to get my laptop back as I need it for online exams.

Thanks in advance

There can be complications when doing a recovery for a Surface pro 4. Cannot remember the ins-and-outs of it, but I'm sure someone will be able to explain the process.

In the interim you can recover files via double clicking on the backup in Explorer (if the back is older *.tib rather than *.tibx) you should also be given the option to mount the disk. You can then navigate to the files you need and copy them to the PC - make sure that you deselect keep security attributes (I think that is the term used).

Do not despair, Faddy !

I am saying this as someone who restored his Surface Pro 4 2 weeks ago ...

You are able to boot the USB restore media - that's good ! That was MY biggest obstacle the first time round, tinkering around with all those settings in the BIOS ....

What strikes me as odd about your description is that you are trying to "restore a partition", when you are getting a completely wiped Surface Pro 4 back, you should restore the entire disk C:, i.e. drive C: and everything below it should be selected in your restore ...

BTW, if you have access to a surface dock, you may connect your USB-HDD to it and leave the USB recovery stick in the USB port on the surface pro 4 ... If you continue to have problems, some images would be nice, too.

Kind regards Heiner

Thanks for your reply! I got it working in the end thank god
I was using Acronis Universal Media not the Acronis rescue media and used the WinPe instead of the linux option and it worked!!

Great news!
