How to Downgrade to ATI 2019 from 2021 on a MAC
Hi,
ATI 2021 Backups are way too slow on my Mac, about 5 times slower than in ATI2019. I have reported the issue to Customer support but I no longer have confidence in this version.
So how do I downgrade back to ATI 2019 on a Macintosh running Catalina, 10.15.7.
Thanks in advance
Joel

Joel,
Caveat: I am a Windows user with no direct experience of using ATI on any Mac.
I would expect the process to be very similar to that used on Windows, i.e. uninstall the current ATI 2021 version, restart the PC, then do a clean install of the older version.
See the ATI 2021 for Mac user guide: Install, update, or remove Acronis True Image 2021
One issue that you may face with doing the downgrade is that the ATI 2019 for Mac user guide: System requirements does not mention any support for Catalina!
Supported operating systems:
- macOS Mojave 10.14
- macOS High Sierra 10.13
- macOS Sierra 10.12
- OS X El Capitan 10.11
Support for Catalina is shown for ATI 2020 but not 2019.

Well I contacted support and they walked me through the Uninstall process for ATI2021 (simply move the application to the Trash, Empty, Reboot).
Problem Ref: 04731681, sent Swarupa Mishra an email with the image captures and info on the System Report.
That said, backups are incredibly slow.
I have re-installed ATI2021 (latest version, 35810), deleted and recreated the backup and the kicked off a new backup. I have disabled the Virus Scanning and Active Protection. At first it looked great, lots of I/Os you could see progress, indicated 2TB of data would take about 8.5 hours. 8 hours later I am only about halfway done and only 1TB has been backed up. I see almost no I/O or CPU activity going on at this point.
The data being backed up is around 200,000 Raw Photographs (25MB each approx).
I do not like being without a backup!
All help will be appreciated!
Thanks
Joel

Joel, raw photo images would tend to be already highly compressed in my understanding, so would be no great savings of using any compression settings in ATI (if available on the Mac version).
This may be a case where a sync application might be better suited?
Were you seeing significantly better performance when backing up the same type of data using ATI 2019 previously? If so, was this using a Files & Folders backup for both 2019 and now 2021? You would need to share such information with Acronis for your support case #04731681 so they have a fuller picture of what you are seeing.

Update:
Customer Support suggested I reformat the target backup disk and try again. I was pretty skeptical of this proposal and conducted a test on another drive and was amazed that it did resolve my issue. Based on this test, I reformatted my target backup drive and was able to successfully complete my backup in a bit over 8 hours (which is matches ATI2019 performance).
So at this point I seem to be up and running. I have disabled the Active Virus Scan but enabled a Quick Scan and Vulnerability Assessment.
That said, I think there is a bug in ATI2021 since reformatting a drive should not have impacted the backup performance in the manner I experienced (5 times longer backups than in ATI2019).
Especially on a Mac where defragmentation of drives is not necessary.

Joel, thanks for sharing the above update which may be helpful to other Mac users, but does seem to be strange that reformatting your backup drive should have such a positive effect!
