TIB file saved saved somewhere, or not?

Thread needs solution

Some how, the backup tib file I had saved on an external hard drive---is no longer there???? No idea how I did that? However the file appears as a backup file in the Acronis program? But it's not really there, is it?? Acronis wouldn't  have it would they?

Some clarification is needed to look into this further.

Was it directly backed up by ATI to the external drive, or did you copy it there?

How is it appearing in ATI? Are you seeing just the backup task, or are you seeing ATI reference the backup via the Recovery option or other means?

What kind of backup is this? As it's a .tib file, I assume File and Folders backup.

Have you run this backup task multiple times?

The .tib file is/was a 90 GB full laptop backup (created by ATI 2019) two weeks ago that resided on a USB 1 TB Hard Drive. The .tib file was added to ATI as an existing  backup. I decided to perform a factory image restore on the Win 8.1  lap top, then reinstall Win10, then recover the .tib file to a fresh hard drive using ATI. The USB hard drive and the Windows10 install media USB were connected to the laptop.  Somehow during the Win10 install my 1 TB Hard Drive files were replaced by Win10 install media ie. boot etc. - and the .tib file vanished.  I have no idea how that happened?

The Windows 10 install process that you used created a bootable installation disk on your USB drive, maybe unknowingly to you. I don't know how the installer works in details, but I have noticed that depending on the situation, it can use non-system disks or attached disks to store installation information, updates, etc.

Since the tib file was erased, but not through Acronis True Image, ATI kept track of the existence of the TIB file in its database. If you try to restore, ATI will not find the corresponding tib file and will either fail or ask you to find it, which you won't be able to do.

Your tib is lost for good, from what you describe.
