Windows black screen via RDP, network access lost
Hi over a while.
True Image 2021 build 39216, Windows 10 Pro 20H2. I can’t be 99% sure this I will describe below is connected to TI, but it starts to happen after TI update. With build before last build did work ok, more-less, but last build and current build not anymore. Time cap between current and last build was in days, probably there was some problem. Could be some Windows etc. problem. Anyway …
I’m using several Windows desktops via RDP. Some desktops installed in very same way, even hardware similar. Just on one, this in question, I have TI 2021, on some others TI 2017. After I updated to latest build (and build before that) I start to notice that after few days RDP is showing black screen. Usually when I leave for night, I do not close RDP connections, just put my desktop behind I’m sitting to sleep (hibernating to be correct). Next day I start my primary computer, all RDP’s usually either showing login or just closed. But after this problem happen RDP to computer in question not closed, just black screen appears and nothing I can do, just restart it as I can approach to it behind the scenes (via PowerShell), not always, then I must use Intel AMT capabilities.
Sometimes, after a while (also during few days after last restart) internet connection is lost on this Windows in question. Yes, I can use RDP, approach to it behind the scenes (using PowerShell), but I can’t use browsers from this computer, also seems to e-mails not coming through to Outlook … probably is failed something more. Only restart helps out. For few days.
Can’t be precise after exact days problems happen, randomly, I would say, but either problems happen during a few days after last restart.
I stop using nonstop backup, even stopped service, all the same. (I recall it was some problems years ago with nonstop backup.)
As I wrote, I’m not sure this is connected to TI, but … it started to happen after TI update.
Any ideas?
More thanks, Alar.

Alar, I cannot think of any reason why updating ATI 2021 to the latest build would cause any issues with how Remote Desktop Protocol / connections work as there is no direct or obvious connection between the two applications.
I have never used RDP as find that I can do all I need by using TeamViewer when I need to manage any of my other PC's or those of friends & family. TeamViewer would automatically terminate any connections if either PC goes to sleep or is hibernated, and the connection would need to be re-established, so this would be more 'normal' behaviour that I would see.

Alar,
I would think that the issue you have is due to a Windows Security update rather than that of an Acronis update. It is necessary after some security updates that the Authentication of Client connections must be renewed. This may require that RDP be redone on both the server and client machines in order to update authentication on both connections.

Hi and thanks, Steve!
Well, I’m very satisfied with RDP as I’m using it a lot on another computers (there is also TI installed, but earlier versions). I think something within TI (my wild guess) interfering computer “general” state. Sure, it might be some Windows update as well, I’m not sure. Now it is working wo TI … 12 days wo any problem, still every connection “live”. And, must admit, computer is faster as well. Anyway, I must think about backups, so, I must choose.
More thanks, Alar.

Hi and thanks, Enchantech!
RDP connections renewed on both sides. I am using RDP to other computers, too. Also TI installed, but earlier versions. Something else is making my problem, but now computer is working … no problem. And, as I wrote, only I uninstalled was TI.
More thanks, Alar.

Alar,
Since RDP connections renewal has not addressed your issue I recommend that you contact Acronis Support concerning this issue. They will want system reports from all computers using TI in all likelihood and possibly a network trace. Here's hoping they can help you resolve the issue.

Hi!
Just installed TI 2021 back, we’ll see. So far (wo TI) computer did work ok 27 days, no black screens nor sudden internet loss, remote access via PowerShell also ok etc.

Hi!
As feedback. Well, seems to “culprit” is TI after all. Ca 8 days and yesterday evening black for RDP screen again. As I wrote before, I hibernate my main computer where this computer and other is accessed via RDP from. Usually, all RDP connections is on next day closed, during this black screen problem this one is note closed and blue ribbon appeared when RDP screen is in full screen. As PowerShell access was still ok I could reboot remote computer more less ok. Oh, I hate this happen as reporting in will be panful, I know.
Anyway, also, in evening, before day I saw black screen again, I have cloud backup, it’s failed with network access error, same I noticed on some of earlier similar problems. (With network was and is everything ok.) Also, with TI installed I see PowerShell access much unstable and slower than wo TI, some programs I have installed on this remote desktop relying on network access failing also more often with TI installed. Also, mentioned strange http access denied problem I mentioned before.
So, there we are! All this start to happen not with latest TI build, but after installing build before that. I have, as I wrote, TI 2017 and 2018 installed on few other devices … no problem with network access nor RDP black screens there. On this one I have latest TI and … big (for me) problems. (Surely, if I’m the only one, something … specific involved even most regular setup computer used, nothing special.)
Terv, Alar.
