Acronis True Image not working in Windows Vista

Thread needs solution

We have Acronis True Image 9.5 Echo Server

We have a Vista Laptop where I am trying to restore 2 Partitions, but after reboot, it just brings back the old machine. I remember having restored this machine in another XP machine, so wonder what could be the workaround.

Hi Robert,

welcome to Acronis Forum!

As far as I understand, you want to restore a partitions backup, but system simply reboots and you get the same system state.

I will be glad to help you with this issue.

Could you please provide more details and describe your steps? Which version of the program have you used for creating the backup? Do you start recovery process from Windows?

I sent you via PM an .iso image with the trial version of the latest version Acronis Backup and Recovery 11.5. Could you please burn it to a CD and start recovery from this new bootable media, as it is described in following guide.

Let me know the result and feel free to contact me, if you need further assistance.

Thank you.

Hello Anna, Thanks for reply.

I have not received .iso version of Acronis. On the other hand, the trial version will not work because my oriniganl hardware is different from the machine where I am installing. (requires Universal restore?).

I used same version of Acronis for backup but as I said the machines are different

And you are right, it just boots back into the Vista, whereas my other machine was XP.

But Echo 9.5 was supposed to be compatible with Visa as per acronis?

Hello Robert,

you are right, if you need Acronis Universal Restore, trial version will not do.

Do you start a recovery operation from the bootable media? If not, please start your new computer with Acronis bootable media and check, if the hardware is recognized properly. If it doesn't, please create Win PE media with relevant drivers for new hardware and start restore from this media.

Let me know if it solves the issue.

Thank you.
