Backup of Exchange no longer works with TrueImage Echo Server build #8398

Thread needs solution

Hi,

We have been using Acronis TrueImage Echo Server for over a year with no problem.

We run a few scheduled tasks to backup various parts of our server, including the MS Exchange folder. VSS Support is enabled.

Recently the Exchange backup is not working. Although Acronis TrueImage claims that the task "Completed Successfully" the backup archive is only 15KB or so and when I check the Event Log I see errors such as:

Failed to backup file or folder 'D:\Exchange\pub1.edb'.
Error opening the file. (0x40007)
function = "CreateFileW",
filename = "\\?\D:\Exchange\pub1.edb"
Tag = 0xA8A1022BD18AE037
The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process (0xFFF0)
code = 80070020)
Tag = 0xBD28FDBD64EDB8AF: Retry/Ignore/Cancel

I also sometimes see errors which claim that the file is locked by "store.exe" which is part of MS Exchange.

We can't understand whi this problem suddenly appeared, and I have tried all sorts of attempts to fix it. Does anyone have any idea?

Thanks in advance,

Ross..

Hi,

we have the same problem here, after Upgrading to build 8.398 of TrueImage SBS on a Windows 2008 SBS.

Fehler 22.09.2010 23:44:02 Backup von Datei oder Verzeichnis 'D:\Exchange Server\database\First Storage Group\Mailbox Database.edb' fehlgeschlagen.
Fehler beim Öffnen der Datei. (0x40007)
function = "CreateFileW",
filename = "\\?\D:\Exchange Server\database\First Storage Group\Mailbox Database.edb"
Tag = 0xA8A1022BD18AE037
Der Prozess kann nicht auf die Datei zugreifen, da sie von einem anderen Prozess verwendet wird (0xFFF0)
code = 80070020)
Tag = 0xBD28FDBD64EDB8AF: Wiederholen/Ignorieren/Abbrechen

We used build 8084 over a year before, without that Problem.
Affected are all Exchange and SQL Databases. Multi-Volume Snapshot and VSS is activated.

Hope someone can help.
Thanks...

Hi,

Meanwhile I switched back to NTBACKUP (Server 2003) to backup Exchange and it works perfectly, so there is definitely a problem with Acronis and not with our system.. You could try the backup in SBS 2008 as an alternative to see how that goes..

Hello all,

Thank you very much for your posts. I will do my best to assist you.

There can be several reasons for this backup failure. Something is preventing our low-level drivers from functioning properly, either they became corrupted or some other software is blocking them, we can try fixing this with an update. I will send you a private message with the file in a few minutes.

Sometimes these errors indicate that there are not available resources on that machine to create the backup. A reboot usually helps with this problem.

I would also recommend the most reliable way of backing up Exchange database that will ensure your information consistency. Please check this article for details.

If you have additional questions or any other issues, please let me know.

Thank you.

Hi Anton,

Thank you for your reply.

I already rebooted our server many times, and I checked available resources with performance monitor in Administrative tools, there is no problem there. NTBACKUP has no problem to backup MS Exchange.

Also I always had VSS activated.

I re-installed the latest SnapAPI drivers that I received from you, and I re-booted the server.

Now when I load Acronis True Image Echo Server, the following error always appears:

"E000101F4: Unable to open (initalize) computer

Unable to initialize snapshot manager library. (0x100005)
Tag = 0x8D5BF87C202E86D1
The system cannot find the file specified (0xFFF0)
code = 80070002)
Tag = 0xBD28FDBD64EDB8AF"

In addition, attempting to backup Exchange still results in the same errors as before - that the files are locked by another process (store.exe - which is Exchange itself).

Thanks,

Regards,

Ross..
