Domain troubles when restoring a backup

Thread needs solution

Hello,
I am restoring a backup created by Acronis Echo Enterprise but after the backup is completly restored I get an error when trying to join to a domain (the same domain as when the backup was created)

Logon Message
Windows cannot connect to the domain, either because the domain controler is down or otherwise unavailable, or because your computer account was not found. Please try again later. If this message continues to appear, contact your system administrator for assistance.

The domain is avaiable, the account is valid.
If I log on locally as an admin I am able to rejoin the PC to the domain with no troubles, afterwards I am able to log into the domain just fine.

Is this an issue regarding the SID not being the same as the original? Does anyone know a solution to this, or is rejoining the domain the simplist work-around?

Thanks.

Hello Mike!

Thank you for finding time to open the thread regarding this issue. I completely understand your concern and will be glad to address it.

Active Directory (AD) is a distributed system with time-expiring elements. If an image of a domain member machine is restored after some time passed from its backup, there can be some old AD-related elements on the machine which are already expired (i.e. some certificates or machine password which were valid during the backup, but were automatically changed by AD later) and the machine can't authenticate on the domain controller. Rejoining the domain will force renewing these elements and the machine will be able to log into Windows using domain accounts.
