2010 will not only see old backup as a file name!

Thread needs solution

I have a 2004 old .tib file. It said it was bad. That's True Image 11. Could not mount it ether!

I found a old TIB boot CD and it sees it find and restoring it now. I though all the new TIB could work with all the old backups it did. Is this wrong?

As for the new version restoring an old version backup, Acronis only promises that the current version will restore the most recent prior version. So, the 2010 only promises to restore 2009 version.

However, that said, it has been found that the 2010 will in fact restore some prior versions so you really do not know unless you try. You can try the 2010 validate option and see if the old file can be validated.

Acronis' policy is not to be backwards compatible to old .tib formats. This is at least true for True Image 2010. I believe this is a flaw and IMHO there are simple solutions to this.

1. Make it backwardly compatible. Most risky and I understand why Acronis may not want to do this. Quicken financial software has the same 'defect'.

2. Unlike Quicken, Acronis does not give the option to CONVERT older .tib formats to the current release. This would be a standalone program or tool and seems like a reasonable approach.

3. The current workaround I use is to boot standalone to the version the .tib was created and restore the files as needed.

It is ironic Acronis gives the option to convert a .tib to Windows Backup format when it does not give the option to convert an old .tib to the current version.
