2011: Large incremental backup

Thread needs solution

I have 2 backup jobs A and B, both use icnremental backup and backup the same. A few minutes ago I ran A and then B. A backuped around 2 GB, B however seems to do a large incremental backup, it is already over 7 GB. Note that the initial full backup of B is newer than the one from A, so the incremental backup from B should be smaller then the one from A! This is already the second time I note this problem. Where does it come from? It doesn't make any sense to me. Thanks for any help!

Backup B is independent from Backup A. When backup B starts the first time, it doesn't know anything about Backup A. So it will go its merry way and first do a full backup backup. The following B backup will be an incremental.
In the backup B settings, indicate how often you want afull backup (do a new full every X incrementals). Backup task A is redundant and independent. It would continue creating full backups...

Pat, I am aware that A and B are independent. I have run both, A and B once initially! However on the second run B does a (too) large incremental backup, while A doesn't! And yes, both have really the same settings and are incremental!

Try to point each backup task to a different folder. Also note that if you have edited the backup scheme, name, destination, or retention rule of a backup task, it can create unexpected results.
Finally note that the default version chain backup scheme does create 2 fulls initially (it looks like you are sure you don't use that scheme, but just in case...). Similarly, if you have checked to keep the first backup, a custom scheme will create 2 fulls initially.

Pat, thanks for your reply, but none of these points applies. I just rechecked the backup type, it's user defined incremental and I checked to create only incremental backups after initial full backup. I also didn't change anything after initial backup job creation.
Both backup jobs A and B have the same source but different destinations. I know I could merge both jobs, but I have my reasons not to do this and it shouldn't be a problem. Is there any kind of debug ouput an TrueImage, so I can see why the hell it behaves that strange?

Just for the heck of it, if you have CCleaner installed, run it manually before each inc and see if makes a difference.

Do you have Windows System Recovery turned on? If yes, do you have it set to a specific space amount allocation?

Hello Grover,

System Recovery is disabled. Also I am backing up a manually created directory which is only used for my personal data, there are no system files / nothing that could be cleaned up by CCleaner. Besides that, there especially no changes between the runs of A and B ):

My thinking was that the first backup may be creating temp files being included in the 2nd backup but none of that would be true if the source folder was the only inclusion in the backup.

My only other thought would be to examine the backup selection details very carefully so see if TI might be including something different than planned.

Grover, thank you, but I checked directly the scripts in C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts and they are completely identical except for things like target path. Hell, a company providing a backup software that has no way to report bugs? I meanwhile found already 2 open bugs in ATI 2011...

Max,

My best guess is that the database gets/has gotten confused across your tasks. Start new tasks:
- move the TIB files you want to keep to some other directory for safekeeping,
- delete the tasks in ATI,
- create new tasks.
