2014 ti, is it possible to recover to new pc and m. 2 hard drive

Thread needs solution

My pc has crashed. Is it possible to recover to new pc with new motherboard, processor and m. 2 hard drive from a back up on external drive?

Andy, welcome to these public User Forums.

Sorry but ATI 2014 predates support for NVMe M.2 drives so if you tried to restore your backup using the ATI 2014 bootable rescue media (CD/DVD or USB stick), it is unlikely to find your M.2 drive.

A further complication is that these new NVMe M.2 drives are often configured to operate in RAID mode for best performance, and again, RAID support is lacking in the older rescue media.

One possible option would be to upgrade from ATI 2014 to the current 2019 version which is deemed to be backwards compatible with the backups created by 2014 for the purpose of recovery.

You would need to install ATI 2019 and create the Windows PE version of the rescue media.  Ideally this should be on a vanilla install of Windows 10 on the new hardware, where the rescue media is created from the Windows 10 Recovery Environment as WinPE media that includes the drivers for both your M.2 drive and RAID support.

The alternative would be to take this opportunity to make a fresh start with a clean install of Windows and your applications, then just recover your user data, documents etc from your older 2014 version backups.

Note: you will face Windows activation issues unless both the old and new computer have valid licenses for the same Windows edition (Home or Pro...).

hi all,

I've been using version #11 for years on my win 7 computer.. it recently died, and now i have win 10 on a new computer

my question is how can  I restore the saved .tib files from my external hard drive on to the new computer? It doesn't appear that I can.

If I bought the new version of True Image, would I be able to restore the files on to my new computer

thanks, Bruce

Bruce, welcome to these public User Forums.

When you speak about using version #11...  do you actually mean True Image 11.0 which dates back to around 2008, or perhaps True Image 2011, both of which are extremely old and neither support Windows 10 or any of the new hardware likely to be in such a new computer?

What data is in your saved .tib files on your external drive?

I would not recommend trying to restore your old Windows 7 OS (and applications) to your new Windows 10 computer, even assuming that your Acronis True Image could even recognise the disk drive in that computer.

thanks Steve.

My entire C is stored in the external hard drive, including all downloaded programs.

If I buy the latest True Image product will that let me restore all the .tib files from my external hard drive to my new win 10 computer?

Bruce, sorry to keep asking more questions but when you ask about restoring all the .tib files to your new computer, what exactly are you wanting to do?

No version of ATI can be used to migrate applications / programs to a different computer.

thanks Steve.

Hello Bruce,

in terms of compatibility, modern versions of Acronis True Image support archives of almost all prior product versions
