Acronis 2012 - Win 7 64 and Setting Restore Point
I had just recovered from a major disaster using Acronis 2012 Home.
But before I install anything..I wanted to set a restore point. Sometime a Restore point is much simpler.
Now I can't find it in my Control PAnel System and Security.
I saw Acronis in there...but I clicked on Windows backup instead... But thats not the same as Restore point.
Hmm...
Recovering from Acronis is for major recovery...but for smaller recovery, the Restore is is so much simpler...
How do I get that back
I searched here ...I see the topic addressed... But I am not able to get the Set restore functionaly.
Is this a mutually exclusive thing? where I have to choose between Acronis and Win 7 Restore Point functionality?

Thanks Tuttle
I can set restore Point..I was looking at the wrong place
BTW... how do I do validation of my tib file? (I don't want to start another thread for this) It used to be so simple..I used to right click and say validate (Acronis).. it would validate and tell if my backed up file was good or not. Now I can't even see this option via a Menu under Tools... or even under restore section. (Only when I do a full backup..I get this option I think) Not sure why these simple commands functionality would have to change for each version.
I usually take a complete back up and then copy that backed up file onto an USB drive ... This way I have two copies.. But I need to validate both the files...

Manohar,
A shortcut for System Restore can be found under Start Menu > Accessories > System Tools> System Restore.
Another way to get there is to right-click on the Computer icon (if installed on your desktop) (or on Start Menu heading), select Properties >Click System Protection in the left-hand pane. System Restore button is available there.
Validation Options - You can access validation by clicking on the "twin gear" icon just to the left of the search box, Back Up and Recovery tab in the ATIH program interface.
You can also validate a single .tib or chain by clicking the single "gear" icon of a back up in view on the Back Up and Recovery tab.
Hope your recovery has been successful.

Thank you shadowsports.
Yes..My recover was successful. The most important thing was, my backup file was good. Although I had messed up my recovery process a few times..I finally got it all working.
Now, after this disaster and having to recover has made me get to familiar with Acronis a tad better.

In addition to what MVP ShadowSports has already provided, TrueImage does offer multiple avenues of where the validation options are found.
From inside the backup task, you can Right Click any spot and the option to validate that specific backup will be offered.
If no backup task exists for a specific backup file, you can use the "Browse for Backups" option, and check the "Add to backup list" option, then use the preceding example to enable validation.
Using Windows Explore, For most, the option to validate still exists if the *.tib file is right clicked via the Windows tree listing.
... Browse Windows to the *.tib storage folder. Right click on the *.tib file and review the options listed. The exact steps may differ depending upon which version/build being used.
For 2013 using Windows Explorer,
..Right click on the *.tib file.
..Click the TrueImage listing
..Click the Archive listing
..Click the Validate option
..This will load TrueImage onto the screen and the validation will begin.
There is an unavoidable learning curve with each version of TrueImage, especially beginning with the 2011 and 2012 versions. Options will be found in different locations and differing options will be listed.
A good staring point is to review some of guides and user instructions.
A good starting point is link #2 below. Read all the comments within that link to understand which options to use.
Another good link is along the left margin listed as 2013....WebHelp
..Prior to the release of 2013, this illustrated 2012 but the examples are often very much alike. The point being is that there are resources available for review.
