Acronis 2012 in Windows 7, sleep / power plan issues?

Thread needs solution

I had been running Acronis 2011 in Windows Vista with no problems, but I may have been using an "Always On" power plan for the computer, I'm not sure.

I upgraded my computer, and am now running Acronis 2012 in Windows 7, and my Acronis backup task (manually started) seemed to suspend when the computer went into sleep mode while I wasn't around. I thought I had read that this wasn't a problem with v2012. Do I need to set my power plan to "Always On" to avoid this?

Thanks -
Mary

Thanks Grover. If I am using Chain2Gen commands in my pre-processing command, would I just edit that command to include the lines from the "Always On" command file described in the article so that it would do both sets of tasks?

I have never combined this with C2G but this should work. What you see in the pdf figure 19 pre command should be relocated inside this file near the bottom instructions as listed in this first attachment. Use your own path.
The "Always" requirement will need to be placed as shown in the attachment sample 2 below.
!_USER_SPECIFIED_PARAMS_FOR_ACRONIS.bat Note that the alwayson command is illustrated here plus the "always" instruction is circled.

The "always" command goes here.

Let me know your results. Thanks. Grover

Grover,

I used your excellent instructions to fix the problem that my computer would go into Sleep mode before my backup was completed. Now I have an odd result that it shuts off after the backup is completed. I have checked a couple of times, and I do have the Normal setting correct. I go into Sleep mode as I would expect, except after a backup.

Any ideas on what is happening?

Thanks.

John,
If you do NOT want the computer to shutdown after the backup is completed, then use Notepad to edit the file
TIH-Normal.cmd

and disable the shutdown command and the power config will assume your NORMAL SETTINGS after backup is completed
Place a couple :: as the first characters which will make the command line to become a simple remarks line
Change this
SHUTDOWN /S /T 120 /C "120 seconds to Shutdown."
to this
::SHUTDOWN /S /T 120 /C "120 seconds to Shutdown."

If you wanted the compute to go into hibernation, there are commands which can make that happen.

Great article (post), Guys. What about using the "Prevent the computer from sleeping" checkbox under Advanced Options in the Scheduler? I ask because although my system sleeps normally, I haven't had a problem with it sleeping while a task, manual or automatic is running.

shadowsports,

That is a good point. In my case, I am not using the scheduler, so I don't know that I have that option available to me.

It appears that some people, like me, have that problem of the system going to sleep in the middle of a task, but not others, as with your system. It is a bit frustrating.

GroverH,

Yes, that appears to be the problem I was having. Looks like it is working correctly now. Thanks.

If the computer works without issues with the Advanced setting, then great and my options are not needed. On the other hand, if the Advanced setting does not solve the issue, then my options may help in keeping the computer awake during a backup.
