Acronis 2015 is frequently non-responsive and crashing
I have been using acronis home for at least 5 years and and have taken all the updates and upgrades. Great experience.
Just installed 2015 today and the user interface frequently becomes non-responsive with just large white blank page showing. After waiting 4 to 5 minutes it may return to normal. Very frustating and hard to have confidence in backups when it has these minor crashes all the time. I am using a dell xps 8100 8 gb ram and I7 core processor. I never have non responding behavior like with AC 2015. Any suggestions? I like the interface when it works, but is very buggy and sensitive. Not impressed so far. I have a crash report that I saved. Do you have updates in near future?

Currently doing a an image back with 2015. It was incredibly frustrating with the constant not responding notices. I take my previous post back. Not responding occurs though out the process. I really like the simpler interface but there is something wrong. I have found previous Acronis versions very stable not like this. Tomorrow morning I will revert back to 2014. Just to risky to use 2015 at this stage.

James
Is the imaging problem with a 2014 task or a new task made in 2015?
What OS are you using?
Have you tried a repair install?
- Accedi per poter commentare

It is with 2015. Yes, I did a 2015 repair early this morning. I just downloaded 2015 from my list of products did a repair. It did not help the situation. The actual task of backing up works fine. I did two backups and everything worked and I even did a validation.
In addition, when I first encountered the problem, I decided to do a restore of my C Drive to test the restore features and the performance of 2015 and I used a recent 2015 C drive image backup for the restore. The restore worked great once it started, but I still had the problems with Non Responding problem with 2015 interface afterwards. .
It seems to me that it is with the 2015 Operations interface/menu . 2015 program opens fine, actually fairly quickly, there is my listing of backups spread over three drives, two are inside computer(all Satas) one is a an External Esata, all are 1 TB drives about a year or so old. The problem starts when I poke around in the Operations icon at the various options for the individual backups. I start to navigate then suddenly one of my clicks becomes non responsive, and I get this blank white screen and have to wait several minutes(seems like hours) then the screen where ever I was, comes back to life.
This is not typical behavior for my system and not typical of my experience using Acronis. I excluded Acronis from my Norton antivirus protection, but did not make a difference either. I really like the new interface, but it's a pain to use and explore in it. If Aconis 2014 did not operate so perfectly, I would think it is my system, but I never had this problem until I installed the 2015 update, beta, or whatever they call it. I am thinking of reformatting each of my backup drives to freshen them up and then backup(image) my C drive and Media drive. I only do Image backups since I found them more efficient in the event of an restore. . My system is up to date with all drivers.
Thanks for responding, suggestions appreciated
Jim

I give up. I switched back to 2014 version and it runs soooooooooooo well. Fast, no crashes, white screens and familiar. Really sorry I paid $29.99 for the privilege of trying to debug Version 2015. Would be nice to get a refund.

Hello James,
I see that you have an open support case and I've left there a comment regarding your refund request.
I'm very sorry to know that you are not satisfied with Acronis True Image 2015. This is an official not beta build of the product and we would be glad to investigate the problem on your system in case you change your mind.
Thank you.

I just installed 2015 and I am having the same problem with the BLACK SCREEN. I have been using Acronis for a long time and this is pretty bad. I cannot imagine that this thing passed quality control. At this point I cannot recommend this product to anyone.
What I have found is that if you wait long enough the "not responding" will finally go away and the backup runs. To give a little bit of what might be causing the delay is with another PC. I backup to another PC on my home network. Lets just call it a file server (for lack of a better term). This is the way I have done backups for years. Just nice to have a central location for all my backups and storage of files. There has always been some delay but not as bad as it is now. The delay in communication between the 2 PC's might be an issue. I will test this with a local backup to a USB drive and see if it has the same problem and post the results here.
UPDATE: Backed up to a USB drive and it worked fine. No black screen. NOW, I made this backup right after a previous backup across my home network. Second try worked well also. I closed the program and opened it back up again. My next attempt will be after a reboot (maybe tomorrow).

All you have to do is request a refund through cleverbridge. Mine was processed in just a few hours.

recently I have had the problem with 2014 completely freezing up my computer screen (yes that was what it was because I uninstalled and the windows 8.1 didn't freeze and reinstalled and it would freeze. this was done several times.) Anyway, After getting frustrated, I got Acronis 2015. The first thing I noticed was that there isn't hardly anything from 2014 there that I used quite often until the whole freezing thing started (I believe this 2015 is the same price 2014 was. Ill have to check) the second thing I noticed was that after reboot, It wouldn't even start after clicking the icon (yes I know there is the "simply ask for a refund. Other people won't" thing but I want to get this thing to work. If it doesn't then maybe then I'll go the refund route). And no I'm not trolling, My comment is actually advice to anyone that is coming from 2014 to try the trial first. As well as to find out if I'm doing something that isn't allowing it to run right (advice).
thanks,
D.Lee

Add me to the long time user and now experiencing the black screen lag time. Hopefully you will get this fixed before I get tired of it and go back to 2013. Is the back-peddle to 2013 as simple as reinstalling 2013?
- Accedi per poter commentare

I did some testing around this black screen issue and let me tell you what I found.
1. When you backup to a local (or USB) hard drive you should not get the black screen (not responding). I did it a number of ways and each time it worked fine. I also did a reboot of my PC and went straight to the backup with no issues.
2. I tried again to backup to my network PC and that is where the delay comes in. I was getting a delay with 2013 but the screen would stay up. I just needed to wait a few minutes. It just seems to take longer in this version for it to validate the connection. I have GB cards, GB router and GB switches in my home network. It is something in Acronis that is validating the connection (my guess).
I like the new interface. I think it works better than the old one. If you are going to backup through Ethernet then you will need to put up with the black screens. DON'T get ahead of yourself and just start clicking away. It will perform those steps once it catches up. I found that out the hard way.
Not sure what Acronis can do to make this version work better across the network. They should really explore this since more and more people have home networks. Many companies make standalone storage (no PC required). I did NOT test this to their cloud. It would be interesting to see if it has the same problem.

2015 on Windows 7 64 bit Pro - unfortunately I have had a few issues of which I have reported and are in the process. I upgraded from 2014 to this version hoping that interface was an improvement as suggested by the write up sent out by Acronis, the idea is good and it looks better but for me I have had problems, the menu doesn't work properly or it leaves a rectangular area from the previous screen smack in the middle of the new page. I did get a lot of Program not Responding but that seems to have settled down now.
My Non Stop backup, it suddenly decided it was not going to work or was flagged up as not valid , so I created a new one, but now I can't delete the old one.
If my memory serves me right a previous version 2011 ? was a revamp and we had all kinds of issues.
My concern is when you have issues like this with a backup program, it does make you a bit twitchy that when you need to restore will it in fact work and the backups will be valid.
There does seem a lot of the Tools missing that were on 2014, unless they tucked away in the Menu somewhere.
Hopefully we are just a few that have had issues and there are loads out there with no problems with this 2015, I do wonder about the Beta testing that was done here though.
I shall give Acronis time to try and sort my issues out , if not I shall be looking for a refund and try out another Vendors software package.
I like others, like to feel confident that the software and backups are working and there when needed.

Windows 8.1 x64, Acronis 2015 for PC build 5539.
I accepted the upgrade offer from 2014 Premium the first time it was offered. Acronis 2015 has been a disaster. The backup runs okay, but validation always fails. The application is then completely unresponsive. I have to shut it down from the Windows task-bar icon. When run again I can access the various parts of the application, but it again becomes unresponsive when I e.g. access a backup in the Restore menu and select something in the file-tree.
Fortunately I have a parallel set of backups from 2014. I won't be adding an incremental to that set till things are sorted.
After validation fails I click on the link for More Details, but that takes me to the web site which says it cannot find the error. But where is the log? I've tried right-clicking on backups and everything that looked likely, but cannot find any logging.
I'm going to try creating a fresh backup set, with new settings. If that doesn't validate I'm going to put 2014 back. It was very reliable.

I should have stopped when I did but I didn't. My earlier posts here about the TI 2015 issues above caused me to uninstall and reinstall TI 2014 on my windows 7 Dell xps 8100 desktop. That system is back to normal.
I then decided to be give TI 2015 another chance and try it on my Lenovo Yogo 2 Pro which has windows 8.1 and since I am planning on getting a new xps 8700 with 8.1 it would be a good test. So:
I downloaded a free trial of TI 2015 to my laptop and all went well. It replaced a TI 2013 version I had on the laptop and everything seemed to work fine. No problems {yet] like I had with my windows 7 install. It detected my previous 2013 backups on an external drive and then I decided to make a new backup and do an actual backup. That all worked just perfectly. nice and smooth. Then I decided to do validation of the new backup. Everything started just fine, then about 20% of the way into the validation, the progress hung, hung for about 10 minutes and I decided to abort/stop the validation by clicking on "stop". This is where the problems started. First of all there was no feedback about why the validation just hung there, when I tried to stop it, it would not stop, just kept going. I finally used task manager to end the TI process and it still kept going. Finally I did a forced shutdown. I then restarted laptop and opened TI 2015 and restarted the validation again, the same thing happened at about the same point (about 20%). I then went thru the same shutdown and rebooted and uninstalled TI 2015. It said the uninstall was successful. When I tried to reinstall TI 2013 it failed to installed. I tried two times. I am now restoring from a month old TI 2013 disk image using a TI boot disk. I have never had these kind of problems before with TI in all the versions I have used on many systems over the years. There is something seriously wrong.
I will not be installing TI 2015 on my new system.

I installed this on to another PC to see what would happen. So far both have been Windows 7, 64 bit. The second PC had more problems than the first one did. At this point I think I am going to make a video about this issue and post it on YouTube. This might get the attention of the folks at Acronis to take action and fix this. Negative publicity has been known to work wonders.

I created a new backup job that had identical settings to the job I created with Acronis 2014, except that I set the Priority to "High" instead of "Low". Not sure if that made any difference to the result, but I was doing the backup overnight so it made sense to let Acronis have all the resources it needs.
The backup and validation completed without errors, although it took at least twice as long as 2014 - about 10 1/2 hours. This is for a full backup of my system partition, resulting in a 1TB backup file. The validation step took around 8 hours of that time. The estimated time to completion sat at "about 1 minute" for the last 5 or 6 hours. On completion I had to restart Acronis because it was largely unresponsive. I notice that the "Acronis Update" window stays open after the application is closed, with "(Not responding)" displayed in the caption bar.
I guess that's a little bit of progress. Clearly Acronis 2015 needs some significant updates before it can be considered a good solution.
My backup destinations are a couple of Drobo 5N boxes on a 1Gbps network. I do alternate incremental backups to each Drobo.

I have the same issue, every time when i try to edit a backup Job, it freezes for a minute.
I have this issue in my Personal ( Windows 8.1 x64) and Professional (WIndows 7 x64) Notebooks.
I am so disappointed about this Acronis True Image version, definitely i won't recommend this Acronis True Image version at all.
- Accedi per poter commentare

Exactly the same issues - I am just trying to rename a backup job, yet every time I click the little pencil icon, I get the black blank screen for a couple of minutes. When it does return, its back to where it is - so I click the pencil icon again, it freezes, returns, and so on. Never ending cycle.
- Accedi per poter commentare

Yes just reminded me I had the name editing problem too, the cursor had a mind of its own, I'm wondering if these problems have been brought about by possibly trying to design the software for a Windows 8 Touch screen.
My backup to a Seagate NAS fails too - with the dreaded black screen and fail to connect, check settings etc.. although the Test Connection passes the test in the set up of the backup.
My backup to Netgear NAS works fine.
These problems are really beginning to snowball and I think Acronis are staring at embarrassing withdraw or major re think of this poorly tested version it would seem.
We were sold it as upgrade only to find a lot of tools are missing, I'm prepared to give them time to sort these issues, but if not sorted before the cut off time for a refund with Cleverbridge, I shall be claiming my money back as 'not fit for purpose'.

I decided to submit a support ticket to ask if anyone is working on this issue. I will be interested to see their response. I realize that support and the programmers may not be in the same location or even with the same company (Customer Support is sometimes farmed out to a third party). I included the link to this site if they have not been reading it. You would think that someone from Acronis would be hosting this forum.

Norman - I added this problem, which I too am suffering to the present tickets I have running on 2015 problems, waiting to hear whether they require me to raise a separate or new ticket for this.
I am totally underwhelmed with this 2015 version and can't for the life of me understand how they have got it so wrong, the whole look an feel of this new version is not to a standard to you expect in this day and age... all a bit amateurish for a company that should know better in my opinion.

There is a light at the end of the tunnel.
I was contacted by someone from Acronis. They asked me to test something and sure enough the Black Screen of death did NOT appear. The screen still showed "Not Responding" but was not all black. I disabled the sign-on to Acronis servers and the Black Screen is gone and all menus are responsive. I figured it out because I kept getting an error message popping up asking me to repair my connection. Sorry Acronis, I don't see why you insist on assuming that every edit I make to my settings has to be reported to the mother ship. I have no interest in keeping any of my information, backup or otherwise, on your servers. I'll keep the program installed because it's not worth the hassle to get a refund, uninstall 2015, and re-install 2014. Your need to re-write your code so that if connectivity fails, it's a global function - never to be checked again.

I also received the "beta update" from tech support, and while it fixed the black screens, it is just as unresponsive as before. The program will sit for 4+ minutes if I try to edit an existing backup. Scheduled backup seem to be working fine.
I do not see an option to not sign in to their servers, although I do not have any login information entered.

I assumed he was referring to the "Account" setting. I logged out and TI 21015 became unresponsive! I was however able to close the application. So far I can't see any evidence that it's more responsive when I'm logged-out.
- Accedi per poter commentare

This is complicated and I have been trying to get screen shots to show what I did. Now that I am logged out, both the Sync tab and the Account tab display a request for username & password. They did not look that way when I was logged in. I'm going to have to login to trace the sequence to log out. What I see with this version of Acronis is that the screens change after a period of time. I think I was able to break the server connection working from the Sync tab, but it will take me sometime to fully document the path.
Now I just moved from this editor (while typing) back to the Acronis application and the display for both tabs has changed.
Now instead of asking me to login, the account table gives me the option to sign out and the sync display displays this:
When I had the un-responsive condition, the check mark between folder and cloud was a gigantic X. I'll keep looking, despite the mysteriously changing screens, to see how to reproduce what I did that very clearly worked for me.
Norman G

Looks like pasting in screen shots was not the way to go - at least I don't see them in my response. I'll have to take the attachment path. That will take a while - probably back at the keyboard sometime tomorrow.

Completely impossible to use this version ( I upgraded from 2012 to 2015).

I haven't tried backing up to USB as yet (No free USB drives with capacity).
I resorted to using another cheap backup solution i own.

I have opened a support request through the help section of the program itself with a system dump.... Lets see if we get a response!

I always wonder about people with low post counts as to their real motives in a forum!
I am using 2015 on a Lenovo laptop to a Synology NAS over a wireless network, I have imaged 2 SSD drives in that manner and set up a weekly schedule, as a test I have also prompted an early incremental update to the NAS with no errors.
I have restored 3 separate files from the backup to the Lenovo all without errors!, I am using the same program as everbody else.
As I said I wonder about complainants with low post count.

Maybe the people with low post count are people that never had a problem with ATI until now, despite using it for many years. How many posts should someone have before that are allowed to ask a question or report a problem?
- Accedi per poter commentare

So do I and for the same reasons. But in the case of ATI2015 there are so many reports of VERY buggy behaviour including major crashes and lock ups, that the cynicism about some posters is not justified. And I don't have that low a post count.
Anyway, Acronis hardly has major opposition in the backup stakes so it is not clear what the low-posters would be trying to achieve in this case especially as they mostly say, like me, that they are reverting to an earlier version of ATI, not migrating to another product.

I've not once seen any corruption of the interface. I have a GeForce GTX 660 with NVIDIA driver 344.11, running on Windows 8.1 Pro Update 1 x64.
My incremental backups are now succeeding every time, since I recreated the backup job from scratch and started afresh with a full backup. My only remaining problem is that ATI becomes unresponsive during and after a major operation - e.g. backups, and viewing folders in the Recovery window. The only resolution is restarting the application.

Did you try doing a manual backup to your NAS? The problems most of use have been having is when backing up to a network device. Interesting to know yours is working as advertised. I am wondering if the scheduled backup does not show the same issue.
Low posts mean nothing. I did not come to this site until I was having a problem with this version of Acronis. I have been using their products for about 10 years now. With everything working well there is nothing to post. When is the last time you called your cell phone provider to say; "Thanks, everything is working great."?

I've been a happy Acronis True Image user since August 2010. This release is the first that has failed to validate backups started with the previous version. It's also a major revamp for existing users who have grown used to the old look and functionality. I don't doubt for a second what other posters have reported.
I've given feedback about this release through the official channel too.

David morgan: 27 posts is deemed by you as enough posts to get on your high horse is it?
Ive been a light user sunce 2012 and never encountered a problem, hence never needing support or to check the forum.
I purchased what I thought would be "the latest and greatest" and I thoroughly regret my decision.
The program is completely unusable for its intended purpose with this inital build and I feel like many others who have posted here.
A software company loses much credibility using paying customers as beta testers.
You cannot tell me that it is acceptable that really basic features like accessing a networked folder can cause not only delays but complete application hangs??
Im not interested in troubleshooting or debugging software for these developers.
I just want what I paid for and expected which to me was one of the best backup and cloning suites available.
Good day to you.
